THE RECIPE Like all good meals this takes time to come together. The prep work started 15 years ago with some analog synth work and the wacky idea of using a recipe as a lyric. It morphed into a digital recording with my wife adding the complaining trollop in the back ground. We had a lot of laughs making this. There may be a video in the works......

Nazareth ‘Hair Of The Dog’ PLAY LOUD! This is the fourth song from the album Unbreakable by Break Cover and is the second of two absolute personal favorurites of mine. "Hair of the Dog" is the title track of Nazareth's 1975 album Hair of the Dog. It is sometimes called "Son of a Bitch" because of the repeated lyric in the hook ("Now you're messing with a son of a bitch"). The title is a pun on the refrain ("heir of the dog") as well as an idiom. "Hair of the Dog" uses a talk box extensively during its bridge. (Although not on our version – but expect to see this Wah from here on.) The outro features the "Day Tripper" refrain. "Hair of the Dog" does not appear in the lyrics. The song has been covered by many bands. Guns N' Roses recorded it on their 1993 album "The Spaghetti Incident?". The song is on the Britny Fox album Boys in Heat. "Stone Rider" covered the song on their 2008 album Three Legs of Trouble. It has also been covered by Deep Purple, The Michael Schenker Group, and Warrant. The original version of the song is featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned. The song was also used in the CW show Supernatural in a Season 2 promotional advertisement. On January 26, 2010, a re-recording of the song was released as downloadable content for the rhythm video game Rock Band 2. In the US, this was used in a TV commercial for Dodge. This version was recorded in a 16 hour session by Break Cover at Sound on Sound Studios in Southampton, UK. Break Cover are: Louise Wakeham – Vocals & Backing Vocals Craig Butler – Drums, Vocals & Backing Vocals Ray Franklin – Bass & Backing Vocals Terry Taylor – Guitars & Backing Vocals Simon Dickenson – Guitars & Backing Vocals www.facebook.com/breakcover www.breakcoverband.com

Another in a series of songs inspired by my childhood; this time a rewritten song about our weekly visits to the ‘pictures’ for the Saturday matinée, when, for an hour or so, we would become cowboys. We had two local cinemas; the Glen Royal and the Pavilion (or, as it was lovingly called, Bug ‘Ole), but it was mainly the Glen Royal where we rode the West each week. The wonderful Bug ‘Ole also showed the Saturday evening film in the afternoon and much of what was shown was considered inappropriate viewing for children. I’m guessing it would be tame by today’s standards. That would come later when I could at least pretend to be 16!! Our western heroes came alive on the screen in glorious black and white. It was a magical time watching them and acting out the stories on the way home. This is a rewrite of an older song and my apologies to Native Americans for the now considered to be pejorative use of the word ‘Injuns’. Black And White Cowboys © Robin J Rendell Verse 1 We won the West when the lights went out When the wagons rolled we’d ‘oller and shout Stamp our feet and make a hell of a noise Ridin’ with the black and white cowboys Verse 2 We rode shotgun for the Wells Fargo Dodged the arrows from an Injun’s bow Smoked a pipe with the Iroquois Ridin’ with the black and white cowboys Bridge As they looked down from the picture gallery Gene and Roy and Hopalong Cassidy The Cisco Kid and Pancho, Tom and Tex We’d walk by in our fairground Stetsons And then for a penny we would get some Sarsaparilla from the usherettes Verse 3 Towns weren’t big enough for them and us Stood at the bar like a gunslinger does Quick on the draw with our silver toys Ridin’ with the black and white cowboys Verse 4 ‘Cross the Rio Grande into Santa Fe We followed the ’goodies’ as they saved the day Tall in the saddle we were friends of Roys Ridin’ with the black and white cowboys Repeat Modified Bridge As they looked down from the picture gallery Gene and Roy and Hopalong Cassidy The Cisco Kid and Pancho, Tom and Tex As they looked down from the picture gallery Gene and Roy and Hopalong Cassidy The Cisco Kid and Pancho, Tom and Tex We’d walk by in our fairground Stetsons And then for a penny we would get some Sarsaparilla from the usherettes Repeat Verse 1 We won the West when the lights went out When the wagons rolled we’d ‘oller and shout Stamp our feet and make a hell of a noise Ridin’ with the black and white cowboys Ridin’ with the black and white cowboys Ridin’ with the black and white cowboys We were ridin’ with the black and white cowboys We were ridin’ with the black and white cowboys
