Somehow You Knew Words and Music: Andy Gay Produced and arranged by Jim Jenkin One from Andy’s “unfinished folder”. We recorded the backing tracks on an eight track in 1997. Then, like so many songs, it never went any further. This is another example of how great Fanda is because Through Fanda, we met Jay and Pat whose contributions made this song possible to finish. Thanks to all involved! Seven musicians from three countries made this possible. How cool is that? We hope you enjoy this one! Jay Lemay: Lead vocal Andy Gay: Lead and backing vocals, keyboards, drums Jim Jenkin: Backing vocals, rhythm guitar, percussion Albert Desoto: rhythm guitar Ken Sirulnick: rhythm guitar, lead fills Channon Reed: Bass Pat Clark: Harmonica Summer nights were wild and free, rainy days we'd hang around and watch TV You whispered to me something from a movie the way you said it, it still gets through to me Getting ready you'd sing a song, I fell in love with you right there putting your makeup on Midnight, candlelight rooftop picnics, you'd go alone to the latest chick flicks Somehow you knew that I'd be waiting for you Somehow you knew just exactly what I'd do I'd never say that you didn't care I think you did cuz you were always there But you left and caught me off guard You never knew that I took it so hard You had me in the palm of your hand You had your fun, now I understand Got a bottle, your parents gone, We seemed to make a big impression on the neighbors lawn Sunset, seaside, wet sand, tan lines, you said you'd meet me by the boardwalk beer sign Somehow you knew that I'd be waiting for you Somehow you knew just exactly what I'd do

This is the third and final movement of a three movement suite that I wrote called Gemini Suite. Each piece explores different elements of symmetry in music. This third movement titled "Mirror of Remorse" employs a palindrome rhythm scheme for the rhythm guitar, bass, and drum parts. Each part would read the same forward or backward. This movement's opening and ending harmonic theme is taken from the opening chords of late renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo's madrigal titled "Moro, lasso, al mio duolo". The music of this period of his life is heavily influenced by his personal guilt and remorse over his wife's murder in which he killed her as she was caught in the act of infidelity. The shimmering, glasslike guitar at :55 represents the mirror that is Gesualdo's soul searching. It continues in the next section as the opening theme of "L'homme armé" (The Armed Man) is heard. Perhaps Gesualdo was continually driven mad through his remorse, and search for repentance only to find none to his dying day.

"January is here, with eyes that keenly glow, A frost-mailed warrior striding a shadowy steed of snow." - Edgar Fawcett To me, January has always been a dreadful month full of cold weather, blistering wind, and lacking the warmth of the holiday seasons that precede it. Funny how we like to use this time of the year to restart our calendars and make new starts and resolutions for our lives. The pure, quintal harmonies in this piece describe both the icy chill as well as the clean slate we associate with the middle of winter.
