I started playing Bass at 15 .
what turned me on to the bass was Archie Bell and The Drells "tighten up "..
Then 1 year for christmas i got JImi Hendrix "band of Gypsy's ".thats when i wanted to be a musician , but drums were my first attempt .Parents said "hell No !!!".. few years later I had a paper route and sunday mornings I'd get up early .while folding the papers I'd watch Don Kirshners "in Concert ... My best friend started up guitar , and I started playing bass .
What was the first concert you ever went to?
The year was 1974 . I had just started playing bass .My best friend Joe , who plays guitar had just bought Robin Trower's " Bridge of Sigh's" debut album. It was at the historical Winterland in San Francisco . neither of us were old enough to drive , so his father ( who was a detective ) drove us there , and drove us home .
What I remember most is watching Neal Schon ,( Journey ) playing one of his soaring incredible solo's underneath this huge spinning mirrored glass ball ,.....Awesome !!!.... I
What gear do you use?
right now I'm using a LINE6 as a preamp .A QSC power amp through a Mesa-Boogie 4-10 . But I am looking to upgrade , and replace my current gear .
My main bass is my 1977 Fender Jazz Bass . I've had that bass since 1981. It was gift from "my adopted daddy " Phil Kingsbury ( daddy phil ) . It's special , because it had been stolen twice !!!! . and both times it came back to me .
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Rush was huge for me .. maybe because my first "garage"bands were trio's . Guitar /bass and drums My friend Joe (played guitar ) and Steve ( drums ) would try and play Rush songs ..... .. I was a huge KISS fan ..and Kiss came around on Tour 1975 , and RUSH opened the show !.. Led Zeppelin , Pat Travers Band
