Michael Brückner - Electronic Production - A journey through the fractal worlds of artist Andreas Schwietzke, with the music of Michael Brückner. Andreas Schwietzke is an accomplished German painter and graphical artist who studied painting at the academy in Kassel; more recently he started to explore the vast possibillities of computer generated fractal images; while the visualisation of fractals is nothing new as such, Andreas Schwietzke's artisitic sensibilities, his "painter's eye" if You like, enabled him not only to soon develop his own unique style, but to carve meaningful pictures out of the vast fractal spaces, which are further edited, enhanced and honed to rich pieces of visual art. Andreas Schwitzke not only is a visual artist, but also an excellent electronic musician since many years. However, the soundtrack of this video here comes from... Michael Brückner (that's me, obviously ;-) ) a German ambient and electronica producer since more than 20 years... The music to this video is actually a medley of three older dance tracks (of sorts), with short ambient intros, and interludes. Here's the tracklist: 1. (Intro) TIMIST ENSTE (Excerpt) - from the album "Squealing with Glee", 2008 2. ENTDOWN - originally from the album "Underwater Chillies", 2000 - new mix, 2013 3. (Interlude 1) INSIDE THE BLUE CAVE (Excerpt) - from the album "Breakfast on Yuggoth", 2004 4. EASTERN TRANSCENDENTAL - from the album "Hoax", 2003 5. (Interlude 2) MORE REDDISH (Excerpt) - from the album "Five Small Nails", 2003 6. MYSTERY - from the album "Irrghun", 2003 Links: You can find more of Andreas Schwietzkes excellent fractal art and music on his own YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/arteandre... You can find a number of of Michael Brückner's albums on BandCamp: http://michaelbrueckner.bandcamp.com Also of interest: the excellent Berlin based electronic musician Lutz Thuns also featured some of Andreas Schwietzke's fractal art in some of his music clips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Waz6mm... ...and: Andreas Schwietzke's artwork will be available as high quality colour prints - more info here (soon): http://www.druckerei-linde.de/

This video was created as a visual support for the live performance of Mathias Brüssel and Michael Brückner at the third Cosmic Nights electronic music festival in Brussels, Belgium, at May 29th 2015 (...the music though is not from that concert - see below). The visuals were projected at two areas, at opposing sides and in two different sizes, into the dome of the planetarium on a background of stars, and rotated around the dome throughout the concert. The music in this video, however, is * not * the recording of the concert, but was was recorded two days after this event (but still under it's impression). Initially, I just wanted to create a DVD of the visuals for my personal use, to watch it on a larger TV screen, and since at that moment the recordings of the concert were not at hand yet, I had the idea to just create a long ambient drone for that purpose - then from this starting point, the music grew into what You can hear now... ENJOY!

Recently, Mathias Brüssel and me met for a first rehearsal for our upcoming concert at the Cosmic Nights Festival at the Brussels planetarium on May 29th. We jammed merrily for about three hours, building sound sets and testing how to best combine our gear, and share parts between us. We recorded about two of those three hours, and I have just roughly assembled some of the (hopefully) more interesting "scenes" in this lenthy medley. Apart from choosing the excerpts and fading between them, the material is completely unedited, recorded directly from the mixer, mistakes and flaws included. Please note that this is very much still work in progress and that these tracks will still change a lot until the concert (or we might play completely different stuff altogether). Actually, these are not even "pieces" yet, just different bits of noodling, all made on the spur of the moment... ;-) P.S. Some of You might recognize the bit at the end... ;-)

Recently, Mathias Brüssel and me met for our second rehearsal for our upcoming concert at the Cosmic Nights Festival at the Brussels planetarium on May 29th. We jammed merrily again for several hours, still fine-tuning sound sets and testing different possible structures for our improvisations (for the set will be basically improvised, however based on a flexible framework which can - and will - be modified as needed...) After having a lot of fun at the first rehearsal, this time around we found ourselves much more in "working" mode, giving more thought to details, questioning our original choice of sounds and - while still improvising - trying to achieve a higher degree of cohesiveness. Trying, but not quite arriving there by now... One of the "known issues" is the fact that we would love to use my little ELKA Solist 505 mono synth - because of it's vintage analogue sound - BUT the ELKA only sounds really cool when I modify filter, vibrato and other knobs in realtime while playing, which means I need both hands and can't play harmonies with one hand at the same time. On the other hand (!) without the harmonies, the mono synth sounds a little thin in some frequency ranges, or at times either cheesy or slightly unpleasant. Then again Mathias could play the harmonies - if I only had not a rather spontaneous (or should I say chaotic and unpredictable...?) way of improvising. Well, this to just give You an idea on what we are still working. ;-) Again, we recorded a good amount of what we played, and I have (again) roughly assembled some of the (hopefully) more interesting "scenes" in a long medley. Apart from choosing the excerpts and fading between them, the material is completely unedited, recorded directly from the mixer, mistakes and flaws included. Please note that this is very much still work in progress and that these tracks will still change a lot until the concert (or we might play completely different stuff altogether). Actually, these are still no "pieces" , just different bits of noodling, all made on the spur of the moment... Oh and - while we will record the remaining three rehearsals as well and share bits of them, we will probably rather post those parts that * won't * be close to the versions we will play at the concert. Because we don't want to give it all away, and keep a little room for surprise. Already this time, I have picked more parts that were "asides" rather than the main thing...

Recently, Mathias Brüssel and me met for our third rehearsal for our upcoming concert at the Cosmic Nights Festival at the Brussels planetarium on May 29th. Once again, we jammed merrily again for several hours, still fine-tuning sound sets and testing different possible structures for our improvisations (for the set will be basically improvised, however based on a flexible framework which can - and will - be modified as needed...) This time, we introduced one more synthesizer - the Korg Z1 - and a second laptop in our setup, which made it necessary to change around the position of the gear, and also to make adjustments / changes in the MIDI connections. While this gives us more options and generally a richer overall sound, it also turned out to be an unexpected challenge: We had to rearrange tracks, the "central" laptop chrashed two times in mid-playing (which it had never done so far) and also the new placing of the keyboards turned out be less conveniant than before which made it more difficult to play certain parts. Also, it became obvious that we need to shift more to "arranged" structures (as oposed to free improvisation - which at times works great, at others: not so...). So, all in all, there were shadows and lights this time, and we feel that we still have a long way to go until our actual performance will match our hopes and ideas.

This track is my contribution to a tribute radio show in honour of Tangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese, who passed away this January - and who was one of my biggest musical heros. There are no final plans yet, but perhaps it will be included later this year in a memorial V/A compilation, and maybe also on a free album dedicated to Edgar...

Seduction is one of the tracks for "Your Second Shadow" - the bonus album that comes with the "special version" of the (main) album "Ombra - Revisited" The special thing about "Your Second Shadow" is that it is personalised, which means unique for each person who orders it. The personalisation works like this: I have created two "pools" of music - one containing 5 hours of rhythmic and melodic pieces, the second containing 30 (!) hours of longer drone ambient tracks. For each "instance" of YSS, I compile one hour of music from pool one, and add one long ambient track from the second pool. Each single album is different from any other, still they all come from the same "reservoire" of music, that was especially created for that purpose. "Ombra - Revisited" was released on the cozy little label BI-ZA-Records... www.bi-za-records.de .

Peace Drone is a drone piece ;-) which I have composed and produced specifically for an event called "Musicians for Peace" which I have been invited to recently... That each of us as individuals, humanitiy as a collective and Earth as our home which sustains all of nature and all cultures need peace - and need it soon and desperately - seems such a commonplace that I find it almost redundant to even mention it. It * should * be redundant, but apparently, most of us (including myself) have not learned the lesson yet - so it needs to be repeated over over again, until we all have become peaceful from our hearts.

Here's another fan favorite from my 2010 album "Ombra" - now remastered and enhanced with new percussion. Actually, I think it's my personal favorite from this album, too... ;-) After receiving useful feedback from several test listeners, there will be a few more final adjustments, then the CD will be produced. Looking forward to the final product! :-)

The album Sparrows is a collaboration between classical french horn player and synthesist Detlev Everling and myself. It has been in the making since late 2009, and now - finally is completed and has been released on SynGate Luna on April the 26th. The overall mood is rather mellow, friendly and laid back (I think), however it also has some (slightly) darker and experimental moments, and one track which is a little more upbeat. Detlev's contributions of both conventional and electronically processed french horn, my use of jew's harp in one track, and the feature of female vocals in another gives this release a (hopefully) original twist... A few weeks ago, a very nice musician was so kind to sell me his ELKA Soloist 505 vintage lead synthesizer - and even to bring it from far away right to my place! :-) I couldn't resist to make at least a little try out track today - nothing big, just some wild, indisciplined noodling over a backing that I quickly cobbled together. But it was fun, and it shows that the old little ELKA thingy sounds quite cool - especially played through my old Yamaha guitar effect processor...

This is a preview medley of my new album, 100 Million Miles Under The Stars, released on SynGate in June 2012. It's my 100th solo album in total, and my first "proper" label release at the same time... (http://www.syngate.biz/epages/15513652.sf/en_US/?ObjectPath) The idea is that this medley will give interested listeners a better idea of the album than the rather short clips that can be previewed at SynGate's webshop, and MusicZeit Download page.
