How long have you been playing?
13 years old. Well, you say musician. I play guitar - open G tuning - and a few other things. I write songs. I record songs.
What gear do you use?
I have a 1972 Epiphone six string guitar. I like it. I have a mandolin, ukulele, Dobro guitar, dulcimer, 2 harmonicas, several recorders (whistles)
What are you looking for from Fandalism?
To meet other musicians and perhaps collaborate, network, make friends, create futures....
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Buddy Holly and the Crickets. His songs did something physical to me. I loved those songs. Sometimes 3 chord things - other times complex. He led the way for a lot of people. Also have to mention the Everly Brothers. Phil Everly laid down a modern, free attitude to two part harmony that lives with us to this day. My lovely wife, Heather, is my first and best critic.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Paul McCartney - because his is a wonderful bass player; very inventive songwriter, doesn't stick to one musical genre; plays lots of instruments; takes music very seriously; and would be a good laugh.
"Is it Because". This song is dedicated to all the people of Fandalism - especially the kind folks who have followed me. Thank you for all your support. This is the last of a group of songs that I've bundled into an album called "Rise to the Sun". The picture is the Texas Hill Country in spring.

Amy. This is a small homage to songwriters Felice and Boudleaux Bryant who wrote many hit songs in the 50s and 60s - over 20 for the Everly Brothers alone. I've always been fascinated with the allure of simple chord sequences used in the 1950s - people still do it today. Keep repeating G major and E minor and you'll see what I mean. Hope you like the tune. Solo guitar played by Ivan Drackaliev.

Dark November Day. It was a pleasure to produce one of Riny's songs. A simple song but never underestimate the power of a simple song. It was great working with Ivan who plays guitar solos like no other. He was born in Bulgaria but has been in Holland for 11 years. His incidental guitar work throughout the song was lovely. Anthea, a Canadian, currently in the UK, is musically wise to a fault and sounds like an angel.

"I Can See You" from my "Out of the Wilderness" collection. Sometimes you write a lyric and you're not sure what it means - like this one. I think it's about breaking free from the past. It's what we all have to do at some time in our lives. Some poor souls don't make it, though.

From the "Passion in Pieces" set this is called "You, My Music." Another collaboration with the wonderful guitarist Ivan Drackaliev. A man watches his lover play the spinet (piano like instrument) and wishes to swap places with the keys on the keyboard so that she can play on him. He ends by saying that as the keys (jacks) are so happy touching the inside of your hands let them have them - I want your lips. If you don't know what "blushing stand" means - I'm not going to tell you :) Sonnet 128 if you want to look it up.

The first from a set called "Passion in Pieces". This is a collaboration between me, the reader, and Ivan Drackaliev, that wonderful Bulgarian guitarist from Amsterdam. The poem was written by an ex glove-maker from the Birmingham district of England. It's a sad, painful tale of a younger woman and an older man. Ouch! It's called "When my love tells me".
