Summer rain....this song came out of a remark my daughter made yesterday , she asked if I remembered the day in the park with Grandad when it rained....when my dad was very ill , he didn't have much time left ,he would come to our house & stay on the weekends. We would go out & do stuff with Olivia .On this weekend we decided to go to the park ,as we got there it started to rain so I said lets go home & watch Toy Story(again!) but dad said no , he wanted to give Olivia as many memories as he could & she wouldn't remember us sitting at home watching a film but she would remember Grandad jumping up & down in puddles & laughing his head off & he was right too!!...always was a clever bloke my old man :-) ....the last clip in the video is of my dad pushing Olivia on the swing that day , I had a rubbish phone back then so the pictures not great but at least I do have it & we all have the memory of that day in the Park, :-)

I could've had religion /Tell her every day... A repost to replace soundcloud links.. These two songs were a couple of the first collaborations I did on Fanda and I was very lucky to do them with the very talented Chris Reid and Brice Cross, two great musicians. The first is an old blues by Junior Wells but it was Rory Gallaghers version that I first heard, both he and Junior played it as a slow blues but I don't have the ability to play it that way so I came up with a slide riff for it, Chris heard this and wanted to do a full production on it and made this great recording, the other song is an original that Chris also liked, he asked Brice to play on both songs and boy did he play!!!!. Thanks to them both for these songs.... Anyway happy Blues Thursday to you :) xxx

Trance... Another of my little experiments.. I set myself some rules for this, first I asked Olivia to give me a number between 1 & 5, she said 1 so that's the number of chords I was allowed! I asked for another number between 1 & 5 and she said 3,so that's how many notes I was allowed for the first guitar phrase, then she gave me 2 for the second guitar phrase!... I chose Em as the chord & tried to make some music out of these limitations... Not sure if I succeeded but it was an interesting and fun experiment! :-)

Please come home....A collaboration with Jerome Lemay, Chris Reid & Simon B during a Facebook chat Jay mentioned that we hadn't done a collab since the Experiment & we both said we`d like to do another , I looked through some of my old songs & thought this would be perfect for Jerome to sing but he insisted we sing it together , my original version was just my guitar & vocal plus Simons great solo , I always thought it sounded a bit sparse so asked Chris Reid if he would like to produce & add his wonderful backing instruments & arrangement ,lucky for me he said yes! I really cant thank the guys enough for this ,they`re all great musicians , the song itself is just my twist on Howlin` Wolf`s Who`s been talking & Peter Greens I loved another woman among many others, its a blues structure I`ve always loved .We really hope you enjoy our song & have a terrific Blues Thursday :-)

Jail Guitar Doors....an old Clash B side , also provided Billy Bragg with the germ of an idea for a great prisoner re... read morehabilitation program , ........ Jail Guitar Doors is an independent initiative which aims to provide instruments to those who are using music as a means of achieving the rehabilitation of prison inmates. Founded by Billy Bragg, it takes its name from the b-side of the Clash’s 1978 single ‘Clash City Rockers’. Billy writes: "In early 2007, I was looking to do something positive to mark the fifth anniversary of the death of Joe Strummer when I received a request from a local jail. Malcolm Dudley, a drug and alcohol counsellor at nearby Guys Marsh prison in Dorset, was utilising his skills as a musician to set up a guitar class as a means of engaging prisoners in the process of rehabilitation. Borrowing a guitar from the prison chaplain and repairing an old nylon-strung instrument found in a prison cupboard, Malcolm began to make progress with the inmates. However, he soon became aware that their development was being held back by the lack of available instruments on which to practise between sessions. He wrote to me asking for help. I immediately grasped the potential of Malcolm’s work, knowing from my own experience how playing guitar and writing songs can help an individual to process problems in a non-confrontational way. I bought half a dozen acoustic guitars and, just as Joe Strummer had painted slogans on his guitar, had them spray-painted with the titles of Clash songs – ‘Clash City Rocker’, ‘Stay Free’ and, of course, ‘Jail Guitar Doors’. Having delivered the guitars and heard from the inmates themselves about the positive effects of the work that Malcolm was doing, I wondered if there might be other people like Malcolm in prisons across the country, willing and able to do the work, but held back by a lack of instruments. At the NME Awards in March 2007, I announced the formation of Jail Guitar Doors to find such people and meet that need. I am pleased to say that the first person in the room to walk up to me with an offer of support was Clash guitarist Mick Jones.  Since then, Jail Guitar Doors has donated instruments to more than 20 prisons. Sponsorship from Gibson Musical Instruments has allowed us to extend our reach beyond the UK.  The average cost per prison is less than £500, an amount which could be raised at a benefit concert by any band or artist that can draw a crowd. I’m asking musicians, particularly those of you who were inspired by the Clash, to raise funds to help inmates take the first steps towards rehabilitation. If you’d like to participate in this initiative, please contact me here. Stay free." Billy Bragg......An American sister organisation now exists with Wayne Kramer & other musicians support :-)

Join the Professionals, A cover of the Professionals theme song & a collaboration with Peter Evans who plays bass, backing vocals and did the guitar solo! I played three rhythm guitar parts, two with distortion & a bit of echo & one playing crash chords, I was after a big guitar sound and achieved it by playing through my daughters karaoke machine! It has a tiny speaker which sounds great overdriven, the video is in two half's the first in my usual jokey style showing how the army is Often portrayed on film and TV, the second half is supposed to be a slap in the face to show some of the realities of war, we hope you enjoy this song as it's a bit different for both Pete and me :-)

Street fighting man....Today is the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street when the good people of London came together to stop a March by the Fascist Oswald Mosely & his Blackshirts .Mosely planned to march through Brick Lane ,Whitechapel & Bethnal Green which in those days had large Jewish populations but the roads were blocked by local people & Mosely & his henchmen were forced back. This is a great day in London`s history . I know the song & Lyrics don't exactly fit this piece of history but its the song that popped into my head when I realised the anniversary was coming up . Most of the pictures in the video are from events that day , I`ve only put one picture of Mosely & his Blackshirt scumbags in because I didn't want my support for the anti-fascists misinterpreted . This is dedicated to my nan Ivy(she was a young girl living in Bethnal Green at the time) ,her family ,friends & neighbours who came together to stop the Fascists.A great day for London :-)

Room to Move- Pat & Stig .....I haven`t been able to record lately & was going through files to see if I had anything to post this Blues Thursday & found the basic version of this song, just guitar & vocal , I`d almost forgotten about it & was going to post it as a solo recording but as Pat said " Room to move without harp would be like a Victoria sponge without the jam or cream"! He offered to add harp to it but as you can hear did much more than that , aswell as harp (& the best flute impression on fanda!) he added vocals, percussion & edited my guitar part to add the middle section ,I really can`t thank him enough for the effort he put in producing this tune , this is our tribute to the Daddy (along with Alexis Korner) of British blues, we hope you enjoy it cheers & happy Blues Thursday!!! xxx

A voice on the phone (slide guitar mix) This is a joint composition With Pete Evans & Bob Clements ,... read more it started with a facebook conversation about chord progressions ! I went away after our conversation & came up with the basic tune which Bob asked me to send to him & he made it into a proper song ! Another conversation with Pete about events in our lives lead to the subject matter, Peter wrote the verses & played bass, Bob plays everything else & produced it . I don't normally do joint posts but this version has & different guitar part From the version on Pete`s page & it seemed a shame for people not to hear both parts, we hope you enjoy our song ,cheers xxx Heres the link to Peter`s version http://fandalism.com/evvowxm#!/evvowxm/dV3U

December morning - Simon B & Stig J....this is some music about the Christmas truce of 1914 in the first world war.The truce began on Christmas Eve when the German soldiers began singing Silent night to the British troops & at first light on Christmas morning a very brave German soldier walked in to no mans land carrying nothing but a very small white flag ,at first nothing happened then a Tommy walked out to join him , they shook hands & then soldiers from both sides joined them ,sharing food, drink & showing pictures of their sweet hearts , there was even a football match with riffles for goal posts....that night they said their goodbyes & went back to their trenches , the truce looked like it would hold into the new year as Tommy & Hans had lost the will to fight....but the Generals(safely many miles away from the front) had other ideas & withdrew the troops from the front & replaced them with men who hadn`t experience those few short peaceful days.....so the slaughter went on .....Many thanks to Simon B for adding his great synth & effects part to bring my bare bones guitar tune to life, we hope you enjoy this ,cheers xxx
