This is a smooth, jazzy Standard - probably popularised by Dinah Washington, who won a Grammy for her recording of it, which was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Here is my version of it!
Uploaded 6 years ago
How long have you been playing?
Been singing longer than I can remember - started in the church choir when I was 9 years old. I sang in the doo wop groups on the corner, and then sang all through school and college. Joined the military, stationed in Japan and sang all through 3 years of service, got out and stayed over there performing, came back to the states - recorded a chart topping record with Terry Huff and Special Delivery - "I Destroyed Your Love", came back to Japan and I am now working and gigging in Tokyo. I've just been messing around with the guitar forever - - but just recently decided to get serious - so I purchased a couple of program lessons from the internet and I'm looking for a good teacher, where I live in Japan...............But I live for and love music and I think if it were not for music - - l would be halfway on the way to insanity!
What was the first concert you ever went to?
James Brown at the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC.
What are you looking for from Fandalism?
I just want to share my music as well as meet, communicate with and listen to as many of the other talented messengers of the universal language of the world as I can - - MUSIC!, IT'S EVERYTHING, MAN!
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
You mean influrences - - couldn't name just one ........Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, The Isley Brothers, The Whispers, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughn, The Temptations,
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I am not presently in a band, however I have been playing in bands for as long as I can remember, my last band, called "Spectrum", I was in for 17 years. We were a cover band, so we played every genre of music you can name except, opera, classical.
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
My biggest audience I can recall was about 7,000 , the smallest, 4 guests. Hard to pick a most memorable performance - - - there were many that for one reason or another were pretty incredible!
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Marvin Gaye - "What's Going On" I like it because it was a ground-breaking, phenomenal project at it's inception - so outside of the box.............and the message is "timeless!" Marvin was such an amazingly talented entertainer, who knew his strengths (and weaknesses) musically, and gave 110% every time he took the stage or got behind a microphone.

"The Tears of a Clown" is a song written by Hank Cosby, Smokey Robinson, and Stevie Wonder and originally recorded by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles for the Tamla Records label subsidiary of Motown, first appearing on the 1967 album Make It Happen.

So Far Away
I wake up in the morning
And go through the motions of a brand new day
Pour some coffee, read the paper
I try to keep up with what the world has to say
After breakfast, then a shower
I let the cat out so he can do his thing
Than after that, I settle back
Get my head together for what the day will bring
But what’s wrong with this picture
What seems so out of place
Can it be that you’re not here with me
I can’t turn around and see your face
Chorus
You’re so far away
On the other side of the world, it seems
If I close my eyes, I can see your smile
But I can’t touch what I can’t reach
You’re so far away
It seems like an eternity
’Til I’ll be home again
Back in your arms again
Than you won’t be - So Far Away from me
Another day is over
The sun will close her eyes and go to sleep
But I’ll kneel down and pray, that you’re okay
And ask the Lord your soul to keep
Seems like every passing minute
I hear you calling out my name
But it’s so crystal clear, that you’re not really here
I’m so all alone, it’s a crying shame - that

Two Story House - Chet Fortune
This is an original song that I wrote about 5 years ago and posted h... read moreere with just guitar - but never performed with other musicians. Had a chance to do it live - and it rocked. Hope you enjoy!
Two Story House
(Chorus)
It's a two story house with lovely shutters - white
and though they're both at home - they're alone tonight
She's in the bedroom - on the second floor
He's two steps from walking out the front door
(He Says)
Believe me when I tell you - I'm a family man
and I'm bringing home the bacon - the best that I can
But even a family man - need some time alone
Though to hear her tell it - I'm never at home
(She Says)
If you look at me, you'll see - I'm an ideal wife
Making ideal plans - for our ideal life
But he says l'm always up in his face
Now - even a house with all these rooms,
just doesn’t have enough space
(Chorus)
Well it's a two story house - not a one room shack
But they've both said things that they can never take back
And they wonder where all the love has gone
In this two story house - that's no longer a home
(He Says)
Now this two story house is cold and dark
We were once so together - now we're so far apart
and though we share the same space - and a King size bed
I'd rather find somewhere else to lay my head
(She Says)
As I walk this house from room to room
With a heart so heavy - and so filled with gloom
I wonder how he can just ignore
Love's vacancy sign - that's hangin’ on the front door
(Chorus)
Well it's a two story house - that used to be so bright
and though they’re both at home - they’re alone tonight
And they wonder where all the love has gone
In this two story house - that's no longer a home
Where has all the love gone!

Stubborn Kinda Fella - Chet Fortune
Marvin Gaye's first solo hit, "Stubborn Kind of Fellow", was released in September of 1962, reaching No. 8 on the R&B chart and No. 46 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song paved the way for Marvin's subsequent hits like the dance song, "Hitch Hike", peaking at No. 30 on the Hot 100 chart and "Pride and Joy, which" became Marvin Gaye's first top ten single after its release in 1963.

Trying Times - Chet Fortune
This started out as just a poem that I wrote a while ago - until I decided to make it the lyrics to a song. Since my musicianship is mediocre at best, I put out a call for help, and the Universe sent me two of the most amazing musicians on the planet: Mark Hall - in England, and HG Schmitz - in Germany - and the two of them have helped turn my lyrics into a work of art - Trying Times
I posted this before as just an audio post, but current events and world conditions made me think it was time for a revisit, so I added a video and here is one of my proudest collaborations. Thank you so much, Mark and HG.
Trying Times
Trying times, Trying Times,
These are the Trying Times - - -
Time spent trying to find time
Finding time to try
Trying to find who we are,
Trying to find out why.
Trying times, Trying times,
These are such Trying times - - -
Time to stand up tall and live,
Or lay down small and die,
Time to look within ourselves
find out where the answer lies.
Trying times, Trying times,
These are the Trying Times - - -
Trying, trying, young men dying,
In far off wars in far off lands
Trying times, Trying times,
These are such trying times
How can men who rule this world
Be so selfish, have such greed
Close their eyes so they won't see
Turn their backs on those who need
Time for us to look again -
To look past war, and hate and waste
Time to learn to care and share
Time to let love take their place…………..
Trying times, Trying times
Senseless and denying times
Can't we open up our hearts
Can't we try to find a way
Does anybody care that
Love's in need of Love today
Trying times, Trying times,
Time to stop the crying times
Time to stand up tall and live
Or lay down small and die
Time to look within ourselves
And learn that there the answer lies
Trying Times!

I’m Still In Love With You
When I look into your eyes

And I reach out to take your hand - and try to understand
How you could say our love is through
I can’t believe the words you say
How could you throw our love away
It can’t be possible - this can’t be true
I really need for you to know - that I’ll be lost and lonely - and so blue
‘cause - I’m still in love with you
I thought that we could live forever
and share a love - forever new
I know the day will never come - when you can find a new someone
Who loves you half as much as I do
What happened to the vows we made
Was this a silly escapade
A masquerade - I haven’t got a clue
I only know I’ll never find another love - that makes me feel brand new
‘cause - I’m still in love with you

The song is about a visit with Santa Claus by an adult who does not ask Santa for anything material for Christmas, but rather nothing but good things for all humanity. Composed by David Foster (music) and Linda Thompson-Jenner (lyrics), this is one of those Christmas songs that should be played all year long.
Do you remember me?
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you
with childhood fantasies
Well I'm all grown up now
Can you still help somehow
I'm not a child
But my heart still can dream
So here's my lifelong wish
My grown up Christmas list
Not for myself
But for a world in need
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end
This is my grown up Christmas list
What is this illusion
Called the innocence of youth
Maybe only in our blind belief
Can we ever find the truth
Ohhh
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
Everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end
This is my grown up Christmas list
This is my only lifelong wish
This is my grown up Christmas list

An original composition / collaboration between HG Schmitz - a musical and programming genius, Bernd Wollenhoefer, an amazing musician and me. A little while ago, HG sent me this amazing track and asked that I try to do something with it.
It turned out to be one of my most difficulty but also one of my most rewarding musical assignments to date - - I must have tried a gazillion melodic and lyric ideas - and here is what made the cut. I hope that you enjoy!
How Could You Say You Love Me
How could you say you love me
How could you lead me on
How could you make me think our love was so strong
How could you say - that moment
was all that we'd ever have
How can a love that felt so good
Turn out so bad?
Didn't you say that you had searched a lifetime
And I was all you'd ever need
Then how could you cut my heart in pieces
Then stand there and just watch me bleed?
How could you say you love me
Where has the magic gone
How could you be my everything
But then leave me all alone
Where is my sweet tomorrow
How will my sadness end
When will my broken heart know
How to laugh and smile again
Didn't you say our love would last forever
That we would never say goodbye
But how could you ask me to believe you
When every word you whispered was a lie
How can you say you love me
Where has the magic gone
How could you be my everything
Then walk away and leave me all alone
Didn't you say our love would last forever
That we would never say goodbye
Then how in the world can you say to me
There's no more us - - there's no more you and I
How Could You Say You Love Me
