I was about 18 years when I first started playing bass. My brother already was a bassplayer and he inspired me to also start playing. Ever since I have played with many great musicians and great bands! With my current band, Bloomfield, I play melloncollic dynamic pop/rock music inspired by bands such as Radiohead, Jeff Buckley and Wilco.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
My first concert I have been to must have been the Monsters Of Rock concert with Black Crows, Queensryche, Metallica and AC/DC on 1st of september 1991 in Goffertpark, Nijmegen! I went with my brothers. I just told you the lineup, don't have to say why it was memorable.... :-)
What gear do you use?
I play a 4 string Musicman Stingray! And I wouldn't want it any other way!! Love that bass!!! Goes so well with my Ampeg SVTIII Pro amp!!
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Growing up I was (and still am) a big fan of Duran Duran. Back in the days I just loved the music but now as a musician I am also a very big fan of John Taylors bass playing!!!
Other bass players that are an influence for me are (among lost of others) Stefan Lessard (Dave Matthews Band), Geddy Lee (Rush), Pino Palladino, Colin Greenwood (Radiohead)
Esspecially Colin is now a very big inspiration for my basslines in Bloomfield!
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
As I mentioned I played in many bands. A list: X-Ray (coverband), Larrikin (started as a coverband, later played own music), Frezno Falls, Suncloud, Ilse Of Lucy, My Own Army and currently in Sarless (coverband) and Bloomfield.
Playing shows is what I love the most!! And fortunately I am playing lots of gigs lately!
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Wow, thats hard. Creating your dream band??
On guitar, Nuno Bettencourt. Best guitar playing I know. Amazing musician!!
Drums, I have to choose... difficult. Danny Carey, Marco Minnemann, Brann Dailor (Mastodon) or maybe Mark Heron (Oceansize)....
Vocals have to be Maynard from Tool!!! Amazing how he can scream and sing so beautiful in the same song!!!!
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
The biggest crowd was probably in Rotown during our Radiohead tribute with Bloomfield!! Sold out, made me feel a real rock star for a time I was on that stage! I will always remember that night!!!!
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
That's an impossible question. Depends on the time you ask...
Right now my answer would be Dark Side Of the Moon...
Such a great album!! Start to finish!!!
At other times my answer could be: OK Computer, 10000 Days, Aenima, The Wall or Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up
