How long have you been playing?

started with the flute age 6, and after my elder brother got a guitar and a bass I picked those up as a teenager. Got serious wrong when I took lessons at the Lindenberg Nijmegen, and with Walter Latupeirissa and Jeroen van Niele.

What was the first concert you ever went to?

Staddijk 1981: Way Out, Vulture & Living Skull. During that concert barman Jan told me I could work in the youth center and learn a lot of things that I'm still happy with.

What are you looking for from Fandalism?

an answer on the VanHalen Tattoo contest. My wife Ilene McHolland made a fine cover version on electric cello, and heard nothing anymore from you. Pretty shitty!

What gear do you use?

Warwick, Hartke, Fender, Vox, London City, Digitech, Boss and various custom amps and effects. I like to experiment with everything.

Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?

Started with Queen, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Rush, UFO and the new wave of British heavy metal (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead etc, via Aardschok magazine). After I discovered Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Santana, Zappa, MC5 etc etc. I dived into blues, then I worked in a jazzclub (Paradox Tilburg NL) where I went into Miles, bebop, cooljazz, and fusion like Weather Report, Return to Forever, Jean Luc Ponty etc.

Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?

I've been in various bands, now playing in the Freewheelers Cello Blues band. Before I played in a Black Sabbath coverband in Amsterdam, and in Gratis Bier & Whiskey in Tilburg.

If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?

Jimi, Carlos Santana, John Lee Hooker jr., Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Lee Sklar, Richard Bona, Derek Trucks, Ryan McGarvey, Robben Ford, John Fogerty, and my teachers.

What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?

Pythische Spelen Tilburg playing for about 10.000 people, most memorable were the Alacannabis Cups 2009 and 2012, the Capri club Oakland, and JB's grill and lounge Sacramento, because of how nice the hosting band and audience received us.

You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?

sgt peppers lonely hearts club band. Artists that can make you sing are great.
But I would prefer an instrument: guitar. Have kinda been there when I lived in Thailand. Jeroen van Niele borrowed me his mini-bass.
