I started playing trumpet in 7th grade and got big into jazz into high school. After graduating I shifted to guitar, getting my first left-handed instrument in 1995 and re-learning how to play the left way. (I started out playing upside down.) I came back to the trumpet in 2012 and now switch between both instruments on a regular basis.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
I saw a bunch of stuff during my embryonic jazz trumpeter phase, like Allen Vizzutti, Branford Marsailis, Maynard Ferguson, the Breckers, Andy Narell. The first big concert rock-wise would be summer of '98, either Pearl Jam at U of M in Missoula to open their Yield tour, or Page & Plant in the Gorge. I don't remember which one came first, but both were awesome.
What gear do you use?
Electric guitar: I primarily play Carvin. My main guitars consist of a couple of SH275 semi-hollow guitars with GK outputs, a CT4 carved top, and a DC800 8-string monstrosity. I have a few more that I rarely use (a couple Strats, a Danelectro when I need to evoke Kashmir, etc).
Guitar rig: I play through a Fractal Audio Axe-FX II processor into a solid-state power amp pushing a couple 1x12" FRFR cabs... yes, I have finally transcended tubes, and life is good. I also utilize Roland VG-99 and GR-55 units for more mind-blowiness.
Acoustic guitar: my main one is a 1993 Martin D18. I also have a Carvin acoustic with a piezo output, and a NS1 nylon string.
Trumpet: main horn is a Callet Jazz, the Batmobile of trumpets. Also packing a early '70s Getzen Severinsen, a soprano cornet, and a pair of alto trumpets.
