J.D. Richards - Songwriter - Wishin' On A Lone Star - This retrospective glance at my life was inspired by a certain day during my 18th year. Lord, I'm 73. Seems like several lifetimes ago. I went to South Park High School and we were the refinery brats because most of our dads, and some moms, worked in the area refineries. Beaumont High students were affluent. This was in the days before integration when Hebert and Charlton-Pollard always had the best football teams. This one day we invaded their turf by going to the bluff over-looking the Neches River by the Beaumont Country Club. We saw a ball of water moccasins and decided not to swim. College and 11th St had a traffic circle and some of the youth would try and see how many times they could go around it or make"The Drag" up and down 11th. The south side of Beaumont was aromatically challenged by the line of refineries and chemical plants on the east side of Pt Arthur Rd. When the wing was wrong, you got a dose of foul smells. Several days the hose off ladies partially dissolved at Lamar Tech (Then, now University). The campus iss on the west side of Pt Arthur Rd. Some of the memories triggered a smile as I wrote this song. Some, not so much. Aren't we all, in Texas, wishin' on a lone star.

Save Me From Myself JD Richards - This original was written at Crystal Beach on the Texas Coast in November 1980. I wrote Save Me From Myself, Driftwood, and parts of 4 other songs that cold, rainy day. I had driven down from Beaumont with the intent of fishing but I had brought my beach guitar and ended up sitting in my car with my guitar in my lap all day. Publishing Tuneupon Music ASCAP Changed to BMI in 1987.

Your Touch - I made up my mind to record this in one try because that's all I had tonight. Felt like a herd of deer ran rough unshod across my neck and back. Not a one of them looked like Bambi. An original inspired by my talented friend's videos and amazing voice.

Goodbye My Lady [Master Edit] - The 1st song I had demoed in Nashville at the Sound Lab on Grand in 1980. The song was written in C#. The producer cut the tracks in C. I am not a contralto. No one could sing the melody. 20 years later I slowed the track down and sang an alternate melody line, so I would have a studio demo. This is the original acoustic demo from 1980. A descriptive story song.

Timeless Beauty - I wanted to post this today and on my 51st try I was close enough to edit out my blown lyric in the 2nd chorus. I had watched a video on reincarnation right before the lyrics were written and repeatedly edited. My inspiration was a beautiful, intelligent woman whose picture is that of a timeless beauty. My imagination did the rest. I visualized someone holding a picture and being enchanted to such a degree that he can't put it down. The attraction was so intense that he thought, perhaps, in another life they had been together. Love through time!

I Ache - This is an original. I sound a bit like Willie Nelson but I wrote it. It was the 1st song I wrote in July 1998 after my arrival in Galveston. The sadness conveyed was in regards to missing my 3 sons in Tennessee. Indeed I ached. I turned it into a love gone wrong song to sing at my gigs without explanation. I had felt the feeling before when I had the privilege of seeing my little girl grow up day to day taken from me. I have the most incredible daughter and my sons are amazing in their own right.

Brother Jack - An original inspired by my good friend One-Eyed Jack Hans who bravely fought cancer into remission the 1st battle losing an eye but lost the 2nd battle. After his 2nd cancer diagnosis, I would go to his room and give him one-on-one concerts as he requested. We would make plans we both knew we would not be allowed to keep. I performed at his wake. The song is not a biography. Jack was never a street preacher and loved his rum and coke. Love yah man.

I had one shot at it today and after trying to figure out the 1st line in the chorus, I finally did thanks to some instruction from my best friend. Love the song. Not only is Clapton a master of the guitar but after branching off into his solo career, he is an exceptional vocalist. Like most songs, I cover, I sing my impression of the song by feel.

This Is No Virgin Heart [Master] - The original version of this original song was very Allman Brothers influenced and this video was originally used for it. I had done 4 other videos for the Doug Burtchaell produced version in which he plays all instruments and yesterday discovered that this video fit the 2002 version with all its Woodstock pictures, some of Santana. The Santana influence can be heard in Doug's lead. The song was written and recorded in 1990 with me playing all the parts. This version was recorded in Doug Burtchaell's home studio around 2002. Doug produced, engineered, and played all the instruments on This Is No Virgin Heart. I spent my adult life researching to write this song and hundreds of others.

Since renamed "I Still Love You" since I have another C/W ballad written in 2007, "You Were The One". I played this song at Thirsty's in Beaumont, Texas in 1982 and a cowboy sitting up front got up after I finished my song and tipped me $20 to do it again. I did. When I was done he tipped his hat as he left.

I'm in the wheelchair, so I do the rollin' with a country twang. Please excuse the vocal blunder at the beginning of the last chorus. My right hand had one shot at getting it right (ha ha) and did a reasonable job. It was my lack of concentration that got me at the and in the end. The song idea came from 2006 but wan't completed till last night.

Aubrey [COVER] - My interpretation of the David Gates penned Bread classic. I think of the lady I dated 10 consecutive nights (Her name wasn't Aubrey) then had to back off because I was still feeling the after-effects of divorce #1 and the loss of the blessing of seeing my daughter grow up day to day. I have stated many times that I am an, "Eye-man". Whether a lady is tall/short, has large/small breasts, long/short hair, or hair color, is not as important as the eyes, intelligence, honesty, and a smile that warms my heart. I am partial to redheads, it seems. I am 73 and have been with 13 women. 4 had red hair. Prefer quality over quantity.

Hold Me [MASTER] - My 2nd demo in Nashville was done in a 24 Track Studio (The Sound Lab on Grand) and came about with suddenness. The producer I wrote for had a session with the Overstreet Sisters from Florida and halfway through the session, he came out and said there would be time for one more song. Could I write something in the next 30 minutes? I said yes and wrote "Hold Me" in the writer's lounge. I had my guitar there as I waited for a ride. The Overstreets liked the song and recorded it. Shortest time between writing and recording I ever experienced. Years later I put down the vocals you hear. I lived in a room above a home studio and could tinker all night, several nights a week. The recording is from 1980. I cleaned it up as best I could. I hope you enjoy "Hold Me". jd

Texas City Texas April 16-17 1947 - I'm very proud to have written this song. The explosions in Texas City this fateful day left a mark on the city that time can not erase. Goodbye My Lady 1980 - Goodbye My Lady was my first fully demoed song, written in 1980.I n a bad decision the producer had the song done in "A" because it was good for the pickers. I wrote it in C#. Hmmm, I needed a vocal step-ladder to maintain my melody. I added this lead vocal in 1999 and it was as close I was going to get. The master was on a metal cassette. The years have changed the recordings sound. To me, it sounds like someone else singing in parts. It's a shame. The piano work is excellent. Congas can barely be heard. Still love the song about a lucky man and his waitress lady who danced around tables. Be safe my friends.
