Voice In My Heart - A new luv song inspired by and dedicated to my wife.
Uploaded 1 year ago
Gulf Of Mexico - One summer afternoon in July 2002 I went to sit on the steps of the Seawall and write. I came up with a guitar riff and tried to match it with the tempo of the waves. It was like I was on auto pilot. A verse and chorus poured out of me. My friend Patsy and her kids saw me sitting at the top of the steps and stopped and asked me to play them a song. I played them what I had written so far and they gave me thumps up. I played the finished song that night and got requests to play it 3 more times. Gulf Of Mexico has been my most downloaded and played song for the last 17 years.

Good Old Boys Like Me [Cover] - One of my favorites written by Bob McDill and a hit for Don Williams. Bob McDill was from the Beaumont, Texas area where I was born. A prolific writer of hit songs. "Good Old Boys Like Me" reminds me of a Hemingway novel or something Tennessee Williams would write. McDill had far fewer words to paint his images. Masterful. From Pozo Seco Singers to his solo career, Don Williams nailed song after song. I learned that Don Williams pitched the tune to Kenny Rogers for his old friend, Bob, and Kenny turned it down. : )

You Got A Way With My Heart - I grabbed my guitar and started playing a simple acoustic riff and 2 hours later another love song dedicated to my wife. I had to deal with some computer problems and after 24 hours recorded it. So many songs and poems written about this thing called love and yet, in many ways, it remains undefined. Luv

My Heart Knows No Peace - I'm old and through the years I have had and lost several friends to the bottle. They had a heart condition referred to as "broken". One of the symptoms is the creation of an emptiness that no amount of liquor can fill. Others succumb to various drugs to hide from the reality of loneliness. When love comes there is such joy and when it leaves...... When you lose someone you love to death, you choke inside. When my mom passed, I greived and am still greiving at my loss but she was very ill with her heart and thinking of her, her pain is over and I feel her and I talk with her in my dreams. She is my best reason to believe there is a heaven.

Born Again [Master Edit] - Born Again refers to my music career being born again when I moved to Galveston July 1st 2008 by the grace of divorce. I landed on my daughter's couch and she brought me back to life with her love and kindness. She took daddy with her and her friends when Daddy was moping around missing his boys the same way he missed his Mandy. She healed my soul and got me back to playing my guitar almost immediately upon arrival in Galveston. I hadn't played in 8 years (1990 -1998). She introduced me to Wrecks Bell and a few months later I was playing 5, 6 and sometimes 7 nights a week. This went on for a decade. Love Galveston and her beautiful people.

Watchin' Heather Dance [Master Edit] - I wrote this immediately after watching the video of Duran Duran's "Hungry Like A Wolf". I didn't copy anything directly but wanted to create something with that type power. This is probably the best rhythm guitar I ever played LIVE. No punch ins. Who would think that this was written by a 57 year old acoustic guitarist/vocalist who believes till this very day that the most honest genre of music is someone with a guitar, or piano, alone facing an audience. I walked away from independent recording deals and chose, what for me, was the ultimate musical path. The feedback and instant gratification of singing to new and old friends can not be matched. I owe my peace of mind and heart in regards to my music to places like the Captain's Table, the Baja Beach Club (My first Galveston weekly gig in January 1999, the Jamaica Beach Saturday Gigs, Bahama Mama's, Daddy's in Gilchrist, and so many others (Over 3000 gigs in 9 1/2 years - Yes, I was quite busy. During season I would book two gigs a day several days a week. At the 'Table I saw my friends kids grow from early elementary school to junior high.)

She Said "Yes" [Alternate Edit] - I wrote She Said "Yes" preparing to ask Valerie to marry me. Lo and behold, she text me in the middle of a gig and asked me to marry her 4 days before I was going to get down my knee. I asked the audience to give me a minute. I just got a text from my lady asking me to marry her and I need to say "Yes". I got a rolling round of applause. She was the easiest person in the world to talk to and the prettiest to me. Figured can't miss on the marital bliss.

I Love The Way You Love Me [Master Edit] - Part of the magic of living on Galveston Island is the moon's halo as you walk the beach at night. Love makes any place on earth paradise. When you're walking hand in hand with the one you love a night on the beach has so many possibilities. A blending of souls on a blanket with the waves wrapping you in the after glow of passion paints the moment on the canvas for you to remember always.

Down In Miami [Finall Edit] - It was my pleasure to record "Down In Miami" with Doug Burtchaell, renowned student of guitar, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He played all instruments and arranged all that is musical. I wrote the song and sang. I asked for a 2 minute conga at the end and OMG did Doug deliver! Zoom! I showcased American automotive history as seen on the streets of Havana during the Conga. The original title was "Down In Havana"

Wave Dance [Re-Mastered] - On a hot Galveston summer day I took my beach guitar and walked to the beach. There was line of condemned beach houses that were losing the battle with the waves. I sat down on the stump and wrote "Wave Dance" then walked back to the safety of the cabin where I was staying with friend on the other side of the beach highway. I recorded my newest song on the 1st take. Dedicated to all the Coastal Texans who live the battle with the waves year after year.

Sand Dollars [Master] - Written sitting on top of Diamond Head in Hawaii in 1984 after reading a postcard about the Legend of the Sand Dollar. I decided to go back down the outside of the crater instead of taking the winding path down. Dumb idea. I had my back pack on and guitar in one hand. LOL. Ruined my jeans and boots sliding and grabbing bushes as I sled 15 - 20 feet at a time. Made it half way down and worked my over to the path. Lucky to be alive. So was my guitar. Semper Fi (Re-post) - My father was a Marine on Guadalcanal (They ran out of ammunition and he had to kill or be killed armed with a bayonet and true grit) and my Uncle Leroy never walked without crutches after Iwo Jima (He committed suicide in a Ft Worth hotel). Men and women who serve in the military to keep wars from our shores should not be forgotten and made to wait for medical care while men in suits and ties who debate their fate get the best medical care available. I volunteered for the Marine Corp in the late 1960s rather than be drafted and failed the physical because of an injured right knee that popped out of joint. Semper Fi. A code of honor. Morning Comes (On Angel Wings) - REPOST - PC BECOMING LESS AND LESS FUNCTIONAL - Written before I saw my bride on Myspace in October 2007. We met half way between Galveston and Dallas (Aptly named Centerville, Texas). She asked me to marry her 4 days before I planned to ask her to marry me. We saw each other that 1st time February 8, 2008 and were married on the beach across from Casey's in Galveston on March 22, 2008 at 6pm. Her daughter, Adrianne, was there and her son's name is Casey. The imagined lady when I wrote the song was her. I'm sure of it. The 2nd frame of this video is the picture of Valerie I saw that 1st time. She looked like an actress from the Golden Era of Hollywood and a bit like Madelaine Stowe. I used pictures from that Golden Era and the two I mentioned of Valerie in the video. : )

I Think Of You - I felt the need to record this today. Mr impatience! The feeling in two of my fingers on my left hand is coming and going like it did twice before when I lost feeling and could not play for 6 1/2 years and 8 years. The 1st frame picture is one I have wanted to use for some time. I am extremely biased, I'm sure, but I have to say that my lady's picture captures the peaceful beauty of the "Mona Lisa". Show Me The Road (To Heaven) - I recorded "Show Me The Road" a week before I pawned my keyboard in 1997. Since the beginning of time, religion has been human kinds attempt to explain the darkness and the questions without answer where you have to have faith. The Bible includes some books and leaves others out based on human judgement. Each man, or woman's, religion is their own and as Lennon sang "Whatever Gets You Through The Night". To me a religion that does not condone sacrifice, either human, or other creature, is viable excluding any religion that participates in sexual activity with children. Moral responsibility seems to wane at times in our world.

Closer To God - [Remastered] - I was sitting on the steps of the Seawall with my "Wooden Lady" in my lap when I started playing and came up with this progression. I was missing my daughter and thinking about how much fun we shared at the beach. The lyric said so much from my heart that It was hard to edit down

Gotta Get Back To Memphis - I wrote this in 1980 and finally recorded it. I performed it in the wrong key for a lot of years. The capo showed me the way. : )

It's Really Love - An original written while I spent 2 months writing in Panama Beach, FLA. I was a staff writer for ATV Music Group at the time. Written as a laid back, medium tempo ballad. By the graces of Doug Luther'o high energy guitar work. I had an intense up tempo scorcher. I had a little falsetto fun at the end.

Love At Every Sight - Inspired by and dedicated to my bride of 10 years. Love at 1st sight should be repeated over and over again. It should include love at every touch. : )

Wave After Wave - I wrote this sitting on the Seawall steps in Galveston. I recorded the waves lapping on the rocks with my archaic Sony Walkman recorder and added the sound to my recording.

I'll Go On Lovin' You (Cover) - One of my favorite Alan Jackson songs. We shared a hospital elevator ride in Nashville when his daughter and my John David were coming into this world from heaven.

An original inspired by the beautiful woman I was about to marry. Old farts like me who aren't rich don't get this lucky. I finally found my Penthouse Pet. The letters we could write Penthouse Forum would make me blush. OMG (Reposting. Computer blue screened during previous attempt. It is old like me. LOL)

Beachasaurus - I was 50 when I moved to Galveston where I should have always lived. Beachasaurus is a term I coined to describe an old man at the beach surrounded by ladies in bikinis. I even created a T Rex at the beach photo.

81st Street Love Song - I found a full band demo that I played all the parts along with a drum machine. The lead guitar was done in one take. The song was written on the steps of the Seawall in Galveston at (You guessed it) 81st and Seawall.

Galveston's More Than A Glen Campbell Song - I always thought Jimmie Webb's "Galveston" that Glen Campbell recorded so classicly was a great song but it didn't describe the Galveston I know by heart. I was born in Beaumont. TX but Galveston is my hometown.

I Still Love You - Written while a staff writer in Nashville in 1981. At a club called "Thirsty's" in Beaumont, Texas I played this tune. A gentleman walked up and handed me a $20 bill and asked me to play it again immediately. He tipped his hat and left when I was done.

Love You All Over Again - To me, strapping on my guitar and sitting in front of an audience and playing my songs is my equivalent to musical heaven. For 10 years in Galveston that's where I lived. I was told I never quit smiling when I was on stage. After 8 years of being unable to play, I was given back my heaven. Writing love songs for my wife is a heavenly experience.
