Joe Vance - Piano - "Knowing You" ~ Here's a song I wrote in 1983. It was originally a ballad. My back-up band and I came up with a bossa nova arrangement of the song, and off we went to the studio to record it. Joanne, our background singer/keyboardist came up with the band name when I told her the record labels should be printed in black & white. She said, "Well, then... we will be 'The Generic Band'!" Her husband Nelson is on bass and background vocals, Eddie Love on sax and rhythm guitar and Stix Primavera on drums. I played my Yamaha CP-25 Electric Piano and sang the lead vocal. This recording is actually from out last gig together in New Jersey... not from our vinyl e.p.

"Nat's Little Diddle Waltz" ~ Here's an original song written by my music student, Natalie (hence the song's title.) She composed one part of this song 100% by herself, adding a bit each week over a three-week period, during her lessons This was her first attempt at composing. Her goal was to have it ready for our annual music recital. The only advice I gave her was to write in an easy key, to trust her ear, the use a 3/4 beat and..... in 3 weeks time this became one of my favorite songs in the world to listen to. I made sure we captured her practicing and performing her song on video. At the end of this video, (which is 3 films edited together) she smiles and tells me (as I film her), "No. I am not playing it again. lol

Lovebirds (Original Song) I wrote this instrumental song a long time ago when I was thinking about writing a serious song for organ. It soon began to sound like a fun song instead, so I decided to finish it as a fun song and gave it a fun name. This is a new 2019 recording of "Lovebirds" that I just created, playing all of the parts myself. More new recordings to come!

This is me and a former band mate of mine, Ed Mount (aka Eddie Love)... about to record our original novelty song called, "Rainy Days" ... when just seconds before we began recoding Ed said, "Wait! I've got an idea!" And using the same tempo setting on the drum box, we simply switched gears and went from bossa to "rock", from major mode to minor mode, giving us a heavier sound with adlib'd lyrics from take one being written down and sung... along with newly adlib'd lyrcs that were created during this take (take 2). Then we went back and added more guitars Ed) and more everything else, "me" on bass, keyboard, synth. The song basically tells how songwriters and artists dream about their next original song becoming THE BIG HIT they need in order to survive in the music biz. That's me and Ed singing, with another former band mate of ours taking the high note on each chorus... only because he showed up unannounced during the session.

"Satisfied With You" (JV Covers The DC5) - dedicated to my childhood idol, Mike Smith, lead singer and keyboardist of The Dave Clark Five. (As I wanted more of my original songs featured back to back, I removed this video a while back and I am re-posting it now. I am singing this pretty much the way Mike Smith sang it, as a nod to him. Enjoy.

"Picking The Pieces Up" (Original written and recorded by Joe Vance & Eddie Love with special guest, Chris M. ... (a former private music student of mine), joining me on background vocals: "OOOOh's and Ahhh's" and of course on the ... "oooh wah oooh wah ooh's" yes plenty of those to be had. (Does it really matter?) (Lyrics: She's picking the pieces up... sweeps the floor, her heart lies broken... sips from an empty cup... drinking words that were left unspoken. .................... Oooh wah ooh...wah ooh... .wah oooh...... wah oooh.......... Does it really matter?................... Yooou, to you? ..... oooh oooh ...... oooh oooh ..... oooh oooh........... Does it really matter? Finding it hard to *laugh* .. hates the world for how it *does so*. Kissing a photograph..... all that's left of a love that's so, oh...true... oooh oooh... oooh oooh oooh oooh... oooh oooh... etc.)(MUSIC BREAK) (Eddie on lead guitar, he is also playing the prominently heard rhythm guitar. I am finger picking a quieter rhythm guitar part, aside from playing bass guitar and a few keyboard parts) Alone with her favorite book...turns a page on the life she's leading. And tho she sits by the light...she's in the dark... as to what she's reading. ...................................................................................... thanks for your interest!

April (Original Song) This is a little song I wrote in 3/4 time (I like waltz time). I used my Baldwin Fanfare Organ w/ bass pedals and drum box to create a rich accompaniment for the vocals. I then added two guitar tracks, mostly as counterpoint to the vocal meoldy. The lyrics speak of a girl named "April" and it compares her sadness to the rain (to April Showers, that is) but it also uses the word "showers" as a verb (" My April *showers* me with love"). The line "The sun will shine someday." means things will get better for April someday, but right now now she feels like crying ("in April it will rain.") The line "At first I thought myself a fool to think she'd ever give me time..." is a way to include "April Fool's day", which of course is a *time* of the year, "April 1st" / "At first..." Another play on words is about April's birthday being in April: "What other month could have *borne" her *day*?" (In other words she could only have *born* in April and the month itself sounds proud to have been the month of her special day. This recording was made using an Emerson sound-on-sound reel to reel recocrder employing the following steps: track 1 - drum box and bass pedals track 2 - singing while recording 1st organ track track 3 - singing harmony and in unison whilst recording the second organ track track 4 - guitar and incidental vocal parts track 5 - guitar #2 tracks 6 & 7 - (left/right) creating stereo echo effect over entire track.

When We Were Young (Original) by Joe Vance & Eddie Love (c)1987 ~ Eddie & I (guitar & organ) trade off some groovy solos in the middle of the song. I'm also doing a simple slide guitar bit. This is version #2. Version 1 was completely ad lib'd. We pulled the best ad-lib's, expanded on them to finish the lyrics, then recorded this version.

Wallflower Waltz (Original Song) ~~ covered by Wim Oudijk of The Netherlands. ~~ Here's a song I wrote back in my band days. This version recorded (covered) by a fantastic recording artist in The Netherlands, Wim Oudijk. [This is a short version that I edited down myself. The full version appears on Wim Oudijk's album called "Love" which was releassed a few years back.] It's a true story about how I would often have to stay out late after a gig, or at a party because I was not driving at the time and I had to depend on one of my band-mates or friends, to drive me home. All of the names I used in the song are the real names of my bandmates and their wives (Tony & Lisa, Nelson & Josie, Ed & Gail) and two of our band's close friends, (Terri & Jack). This version of the song was recorded by Netherlands' singer/songwriter, Wim Oudijk for his 2009 "LOVE" CD. (I edited the song down for the video to make it a short re-mix version.) Thank you Wim... for honoring me by including my song on your fantastic album! This video is dedicated to Netherlands singer, Karlijn Verhagen who inspired me to create a video for this song... and to Chrissy Prim who was first to hear this song,,, when she and I left the noisy area of a band party and I sang and played "Wallflower Waltz" for her on my guitar. She was a big fan of mine, so to speak, and smiled all the way through, knowing all the people in the song, including her dad, Tony, the band's drummer. She was well familiar with my plight and she knew all too well that the song was oh so true. )

Oh What a Dream (Original Song) by Joe Vance ©1990 ~~ From my rock opera, a song of "first love". The "twist" is this: the girl that (our hero) sees in his dreams tells HIM "I'll be dreaming of you." (So who is dreaming of whom??) I love injecting some humor into my songs. The last line in this song goes: "Is she just in my mind... or will we ever meet? I might hold her again... if I could get to sleep!!" :) Truth be known, this song was inspired by a dream I had that has continued to haunt me since grade school.

"Vidia" (Original Song) My preference for AUDIO over video is pointed out in song; my complaint that one should not have to feel they haven't heard a song until they've seen it.
