American Percussion's " Pocket Drum "The Pocket Drum is another unique hand drum from American Percussion instruments. The beveled drum is 13" in diameter and has a Remo pre-tuned head on the front and calfskin head on the back. You will also find a semi- circular brace on the bottom of the drum which is there to help hold the drum on the thigh or knee . There are four plastic finger sticks and one felt mallet that comes with the drum. The idea is to hit either head from the inside of the drum while moving the drum in and away from your body to help mute or inhance the sound. Also, you can hit the inside of the shell as well as demonstrated in the video. There is a learning curve to playing the drum, but once you do, it can be a whole lot of fun. This drum can also be put in a conventional snare drum stand and played with other kinds of sticks and it's also a hand drum that can be put between the knees and played with the hands. VERY VERSITLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Recorded @ sonart recording studio.com

Ken Lovelett's " Sines of Life "Sines of Life started out about 40+ years ago as a jam with Bucky Milam playing trumpet, Barb Truex playing mountain dulcimer and myself playing a sound sculture that I created called NAGGARA DRUMS. About 12 years ago Pete Levin recorded the synth tracks and lastly Thomas Workman played the didgeridoo. The Naggara drums can be seen on Ken lovelett's website - www.american percussion.com. Recorded @ sonart recording studio.com. On T.A.o.S. records.

Ken Lovelett- Dr Hooker's " A Stranger Smile "One of the rarest U.S. psych albums, previously issued on CD by Subliminal Sounds, in a beautiful and legit 180 gram vinyl LP reissue. The Truth, recorded in Connecticut in 1972, might very well be the ultimate North American acid rock album, ever. No hype here -- just incredible music. Tempting as it is to exaggerate the worth of such obscurities, The Truth deserves every plaudit that comes its way, making it astonishing that there was no real band to speak of. Instead, ten musicians are credited alongside the mysterious Donald Hooker, who wrote, sang and played lead on the album. Culled from the local music scene, they rehearsed only briefly before entering the studio. After I moved to Woodstock in the 80's I started receiving phone calls from different places around the world. They wanted to know if I was the same Ken Lovelett that played with Dr Hooker. After a bombardment of questions the all important question was asked if I had an album and would I be willing to part with it. The amount of money they offered was quite unheard of for an album at that time or any other. I refused the offers until many years later.

AMERICAN PERCUSSION " Klacker Bongos" 003The "Klacker Bongo" is similar to the traditional klacker but differs in that the klacker discs are inverted. This enables the performer to ride down on the discs with the mallets or fingers while playing on the drum heads. As you can hear in this video it is a very complex sound controlling all of the sonic variations but at the same time they are easy to play.

AMERICAN PERCUSSION " Globe Drum" 017The "Globe Drum" reminds me of going to the library and seeing the world globe that sits in a stand that spins around so that you can see different parts of the world. Similarly ,my globe drum has the capacity to spin a certain amount so that the performer may adjust the proper playing angle for themselves. AMERICAN PERCUSSION," Perpetual Rainwheel" 002This rainwheel works great because the rain stops only when you stop turning the crank. Rain sticks, as you may know, stop as soon as the seeds are all at one end. The wheel sits on a tripod stand where the legs can come off for better portability. Ken Lovelett's "Lapdance"This composition was written by Barb Truex many years ago and is called "Peach ". I like the song so much that Barb let me use it on my cd to show the versatility of the lapdrum. I am using a lower than usual tuning on the drum. The title lapdance comes from the idea that barb is playing the lap dulcimer and I'm playing the lapdrum. Jim Rivoli is playing the electric bass and Vincent Pasternack is playing the viola. These are all original members of a 70's group called Side Step.Recorded @ sonart recording studio.com. On T.A.o.S. Records

I think this new video will give more insight as to the possibilities of this unique percussion instrument. Although the sizzle board has a unique timbre when played by itself it really comes alive when paired with other instruments. I'm using American Percussion bamboo brushes and felt mallets. Ken Lovelett's Sonic Liberation Ork S Tra's " Solo/Duo "This is another side from SLO's" Katatabic Winds" cd with a little different soloing concept. After we drew straws to see whom would follow whom and the order of solos were established I decided we needed a smooth transition. So, the next up player would come in towards the end of the first soloist and the two would play together for a bit and then the first soloist would drop out leaving the next soloist some space to play . Thus the title solo/duo. This was recorded @ sonart recording studio.com. On T.A.o.S Records

Ken Lovelett's Tribute to Harry Nilsson - " Lime in a Coconut"This short little ditty was extrapolated from a larger improvised piece because of the feel it had .Then for no reason I started to hum the Nilsson song " and the rest is history " !!!!!!!!!! NOT but it was a lot of fun to produce .I put the vocals on and the high backgroundvocal Eric Dahlman did was already there so it worked out great. Futuristic music by futuristic musicians is the way I would describe this group of musicians called " The Sonic Liberation Ork S Tra". Almost everyone made the instrument/s that they played on the cd. Gus Mancini plays whistles and bass clarinet, Erik Nugent plays slide clarinet, slide accordian and bass trumpet, John Fay plays the panjo ( a very large skillet with one string and pickup ), Peter Head plays lunch box guitars,Eric Dahlman on trident horn, Michael Knoblack on percussion, Anais on vocals and Ken Lovelett playing a large sound sculpture called "The Bellatope " Recorded mixed and mastered @ Sonart recording studio.com. Ken Lovelett's " Rapdance " I started producing this rap artist several years ago and found myself oddly attracted to the music. I guess this would make good sense with all of the different percussion instruments that I make and play. They just seem to add a different flavor. I decided to make an attempt at a rap song and being a stutterer I decided to do a very simple simple lyric line. I don't remember how I cam up with " I'm only going to say this once ", probably from my parents lol. Since this is supposed to be a cd featuring the Lapdrum I decided to put a rap song on the cd. The lapdrum intro was influenced by Jan Hammer's intro to the Miami Vice theme, using the drum sound as the melody, and then playing freely from that point. A good friend Gus Mancini played all the synth parts as well as writing the song and I played the lapdrum, as the feature, as well as many other percussion instruemnts. This song is the the second title on the upcoming cd. I had a lot of fun making it without one swear word lol.

Bucky Milam played a beautiful flugelhorn part and Saffo did all of the vocals.Martin Keith played upright bass. Basically, this song is about my summer days down by a stream where I grew up, as a young boy, in Farm country in upstate NY. If you listen to the lyrics to the song you will get the day in a life of a young country boy who really enjoyed hang down by the stream all day.

Ken Lovelett's "Sonic Liberation Ork S Tra"- Sines of Life. Sines of Life started out about 40+ years ago as a jam with Bucky Milam playing trumpet, Barb Truex playing mountain dulcimer and myself playing a sound sculture that I created called NAGGARA DRUMS. About 12 years ago Pete Levin recorded the synth tracks and lastly Thomas Workman played the didgeridoo. The Naggara drums can be seen on Ken lovelett's website - www.american percussion.com

American Percussion's " Digidrum" It is very obvious that this is not a didgeridoo but after my playing experiences with one of the best didge players in the world decided to create the digidrum for a percussionists. Although this drum can only do a fraction of what a real didge can do it's still a heck of a lot of fun to play. The drum head emulates the breath of the didge player while the sound vibrations travels into the spout that's been added to to a dumbek body. The vibration excites the " Digi Head" aptly painted in an aboriginal fashion. There is a secret , however, as to the type of head and it's method of attachment. Alone the drum can sound a little obnoxious but when paired with other instruments it sounds really really KOOL !!!!!!
