Harry and the Camp Girls - Mike Wruk 1981 (2019) I rejigged the 1981 jotting of Harry and the Camp Girls for Harry Ciantar, after he got in touch having seen the Camp Windy Wood Blues video. As Harry said he felt like a "wolf amongst the pigeons" and the song was pretty close to the mark. A couple of odd references "your religion to bring em on down" was about the Catholic guilt and "apron strings" is a metaphor I used for home/family/reality. The Video is random Girls on Summer camp and horses with a few Windy Wood photo's thrown in.

Snake Skin Boots - Mike Wruk - December 2018 While Tom was in hospital (December 2017) I decided to write a song called "The Guy in the Snake Skin Boots" after the phrase used when he was first introduced to me. I quickly found the starting point but then it all got too complicated. After Tom passed in January my thought became more focused on the Guy I first met and that early period up until 1982. Obviously the Vulcan and friends featured highly and the Monk paintings he had in the front room on Belgrave Road, (which were very similar to painting I had done) I asked Jules and Geoff if they wanted to add anything and Jules came up with the "we love you" refrain and the Shakespeare Boots at the end. Tom is featured at the beginning with Tennis Balls and singing Four Chairs at the end.

What would you say - Mike Wruk - Oct 2018 Originally written in 1976 for Jane Sedgwick, a song of unrequited love, set in our Sixth Form version of Peter Pan (called Rumplestiltskin) revamped to play with Geoff 2018 this was only meant as a rough sketch for him to work on.

end of the world - Mike Wruk - Feb 2018 A year since I was made redundant and still very raw. Hope this isn't too miserable. Just casually remembering the one year anniversary of the End of Europrint and this popped into my head and I more or less sang it out accapella. I recorded it the same way then put the music around the vocal. Hopefully it will make it easier for the Europrint friends who are more used to putting up with me singing two or three rooms away. This particular world did end and the friendships although very real and special, did work as part of a whole, which was taken away. The video is me looking rough chopped with a Europrint Party.

In Happier Times - Mike Wruk - June 2017 Written around the time of the redundancy announcement at Europrint so it became a reflection on that. The story of the song is about being in a hard place, thinking back on good times. It begins with a footpath in Sunnyhurst Woods that is at a level with the tops of the trees, a place of peace when I need some clarity. The song then describes the problems of redundancy but it allows time to head up through the woods and onto the Moors. Where when falling over a stile, you face the sky and find some peace. The video is a collection from Euorprint's 2015 Foot-Golf at Mytton fold Golf Course.

Now's the time for leaving Europrint - Mike Wruk - 2017 Being made redundant after 27 years I knew I had to mark the occasion in some way. Originally "Now's the time for leaving" was written in 1980 when I was leaving College in Hull. This song was in my head as I woke on my last day Friday 19 May and I thought I could go in, change a few words and record it before work. That didn't quite go to plan, but I took this video and worked a little more on the rewrite. I attempted an epic arrangement but this was far more direct.

Deep End - Mike Wruk (for Mick Tierney) - 2017 Another song about my friendship with Mick Tierney How a person you feel so close to, can could become someone so different that you don't actually want to be around them. Back in 1982 there was a party at Geoff's, Mick's behavior to Tracy was way out of order, and I wrote this. Our friendship was drifting and we continued to drift farther apart.

Young At Heart - Mike Wruk & Mick Potts 1984 Young At Heart - Mike Wruk & Mick Potts - music - lyrics Mike Wruk Mick Potts - Guitar Mike Wruk - Bass, Vocal, Sounds, Mixing. ----------------------------------------------------- Early in 1984, I was at a Disco at the Elma Yerburgh pub with Mick Tierney and Rus Entwistle. They had just been working on their Pieces of Eight music project and spent quite a bit of time together. We were well into our 20's but the the rest of the punters were students in their late teens so we did seem to be stood on the side lines watching. I was amused by the white shell suits being very like boiler suits as some Young Lady shared her crisps with us. We would have danced if the right song came on. I remember the "Joe 90" theme coming on and we seemed embarrassed that we could remember it from the TV series. At one point we went hiding in the darts room where there was a piano that Rus played "Imagine" on. Mick Potts was in a band called IQ Zero, Rus replaced him on guitar and they became Bamboo Zoo. I had know Mick from his brother Steve who I sold my Hofner bass too, he stopped playing and I borrowed then bought it back. We worked on several bits and eventually tried out a gig as "The Girls in Thigh Length Boots" There are various clips from the satirical BBC Radio Four, Week Ending programme. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- YOUNG AT HEART Three wise monkeys on the floor, they’re just waiting for the right song, they sit in judgement of this dance, the art school types with their boiler suits. The young at heart are out tonight, can’t you see them? Wheel out the veterans once again, sound survivors of the war, oh I remember them so well, that is I must have been a child. The young at heart are out tonight, can’t you see them - break - See no evil, can’t hear them speak, the organ grinds another tune, Madonna with a packet of crisps, passes round a tempting bite. The young at heart are out tonight, can’t you see them? there they are......

Again and Again - Mike Wruk - 1989 (for Mick Tierney) Mick Tierney was a close friend back in our teens but as most people became less self centered, Mick he became more self absorbed. At times, he just went too far, as in my 1982 "Deep End" song. Here in 1989 I hadn't seen Mick for a while and we found ourselves walking home in the same direction with a friend. Mick decided it would be good sport to build this friend up and then just cut him down. It was a game we did play together when younger with those who where jumped up but this was plain nasty. Sadly over the years it seems Mick had done the nasty on everyone he knew.

Slime On The Eastern Front - Mike Wruk 2016 When I got my 2nd Sax I though that that this would be good to play and came up with this arrangement that I tightened up in the mix. My original bass riff/idea is from 1974 when (Steel Paradise) Mick Tierney and I recorded a rough version with radio interference as a sea sound. I wrote the lyrics in 1974/75 and when I did this new recording the chorus just fell into place. It was a lot more difficult to play sax on a recording than I remembered. At the end I've added the 1974 Steel Paradise extract Mick Tierney - guitar - vocal - radio noise Mike Wruk - bass The video is cut up from videos of the California Pacific Coast Highway which is obviously on the Western not Eastern Coast.

They never shoot the good guys - Mike Wruk 1986 - The words maybe a little esoteric, but despite metaphors to various particular events from Peanuts and Batman, to Play it Again Sam. I think the sentiment is pretty universal. Liz West from Scunthorpe was going away to au-pair in Germany for a year after finishing College and we always seemed to be on railway stations saying goodbye. it was more about a symbolic romance rather than the relationship. Cockoo - Mike Wruk - March 2016 In 2011 Dad was suffering from increasing dementia. To give Mum some respite he went into Old Gates nursing home which with it's locked doors and echoing corridors was reminiscent of "One flew over the cuckoo's nest". It was his 90th birthday and he kept telling us how the Yanks would wait at the river. Fortunately he was more settled down at Sandybrook. I wrote most of this back then and felt although sad, it was worth finishing.

Written by Mike Wruk & Julia Probert in March 1987 we managed to record it with Geoff Horrocks on Rhythm Guitar and Tom Binns on bass. the recording lacked some of the spontaneity of our original demo so I managed to marry the two main recordings to create this. As a band we didn't really do much so this is quite special for us. I just used a few found images and photos from early 1987 for the video.

Different Paths For Neil Arthur, I never seemed to give him enough credit. As with "Punch Me" this is another apology for the way I behaved in the Sixth Form. I first got to know Neil through John Bentley and then in art at Moorland High School. We both had Saturday jobs at Woolworth's Blackburn. We met up socially many times and he went on to have success in Blancmange I headed in a different direction.

Camp Windy Wood Blues 1981 - Mike Wruk Warning this 1981 recording, made when I got home from the US is really rough. "Camp Windy Wood Blues" started as a skiffle song for the boys in the Alamo cabin, "gotta big wiener, gotta big wiener, got it from the hot dog man" I amended it to sing on the big field in the evening ad libbing lyrics about the special needs girl Mary Kelly who was in Nancy's cabin. As a Saturday evening "skit" show I had my cabin boys as a skiffle band with rhythm pole singing a similar song. "Miss Jo don't allow no skiffle playing here" The Video is as rough and ready as the skiffle

Coca Cola - Mike Wruk - Dec 31 2003 Mike Wruk at Geoff's New Year's Eve party 2003 Written in 1981 whilst we were running the Fleece Open folk club (see Mike Wruk Blog). I found the chords for a traditional song called Cocaine. I had no idea how it went but I used the words and chord structure to write something about the fallout from a night on the booze. I was later called upon to add the sing along chorus, strangely enough it became a kids favourite. Special assistance from Marcus age 5

Remember The Alamo - Mike Wruk - Dec 31 2003 Remember the Alamo- 06/06/81 Remember the Alamo, Remember the place we‟d go, There always was so much to learn, and so many things we could see. We talk of the Alamo, traces of games we would play, bruises that hurt still today, yet no one can take them away. If the hard time are hitting you now if the people are running you down. If it‟s all been happening too long, just remember those days. I remember those days. They‟re lost at the Alamo, faces of heroes an friends, mixed up somehow all inside, oh where are those faces now? If the hard time are hitting you now. If the people are running you down. If it‟s all been happening too long, just remember those days. I remember those days. I remember those days at the A-l-a-m-o.

Venus de Milo - Mike Wruk - June 1998 The idea of music made up of random sounds was still around in the 70's. Inspired by examples from the Beatles, Zappa, Beefheart and the Velvet Underground, Graham Beeby and I put a few pieces together that we enjoyed. Graham then met Jim Wilkinson & Damian Murray who put together random songs similar to the Residents. They called themselves "Exceedingly Chelsea Boot" and along with Graham they recorded various material. I remember there was one song called "Venus de Milo" which inspired me record this piece using a very loose structure. trying to do each part in one take.

Smash it - October 1989 - Mike Wruk - Jules Probert - Geoff Horrocks - - - A constructed song by Jules, Geoff and I. We wanted to put together something we all could contribute to, a combined effort. I came up with the idea of a girl leaving a love triangle. Jules wrote the lyrics, Geoff adapted my bass idea into the acoustic part and I put on the electric guitar. It should have faded out but when we cracked up at the end it seemed worth keeping.

Vulcan's Forge - Mike Wruk - 1983 I first went to the Vulcan in 1974 and really loved it, gradually after college and getting into my 20's the place was losing it's appeal. A new group of teens were in occupation listening to the same music and doing the same things. The idea for the song came from seeing smoke in the general Vulcan direction. I thought that if the place burned down my affection would always remain intact, rather than see it going further downhill. Also as Vulcan was the roman god of fire, blacksmith to the gods, it seemed a fitting end, certainly better than pulling it down to build a car park. I wrote the song when staying with cello player Laurie Levin in Brooklyn Heights we recorded it a year later at Jenkintown Music School.

1995 version of "Take No Time", originally from June 1973 several versions later it got to this. The drone was developed from Gustav Holst's Mars. Roy added the idea of a rhythmic bass part. The original lyrics were improvised and adapted version by version but keeps the feel. The video idea was to maintain our 1973 psychedelic, surrealist interests, contrasting with the clean cut school photo of the time and the yellow sky of my artwork. ----------------------------------- Take No Time 18/06/73 - 1995 Taking my time going no place take my time, take no time Watching the clock go backwards: the face (the face) (take no time) I wonder why you can't see me I'm blind Run, run, run, run, run, I'm blind (it's in the eyes) Run, run, run, run, run, I'm blind Run from tomorrow Run from nowhere Run beyond the horizon my piano (my piano) (my piano) counting time, take no time, take no pills counting time, take no time, take no pills Losing your dream of tomorrow meeting a man of time (meeting a man) (take no time) wearing his cloak of pills and thrills and spills and things Selling his trips to a purple haze, strawberry field and a bit of California sunshine (sunshine) Watching the space grow larger feeling yourself growing small Growing so large you are small Then suddenly I notice all of my friends doing awfully friendly things Ha ha counting time, take no time, (counting time, take no time,)
