Twilight Zone (Golden Earring Cover) - Blue Jeans & Black 1992.This song gave (dutch band) The Golden Earring a second international hit in the early eighties since Radar Love (1973). A great song to cover!

Bad Breaks (Solution Cover) - Blue Jeans & Black 1992. Solution was a originally instrumental Dutch band, in the 80s they had a sort of come back with their Bassist singing. We especially liked this song. I don't think we changed anything of the arrangement, so we sounded pretty much he same as Solution, except maybe for we had a female singer.

I can hear your Heartbeat (Chris Rea Cover) - Blue Jeans & Black 1989. These last two uploads contrast very much with the last upload before them, the punk-jam in the old Gas Plant. These two in a way contrast themselves as well in a way as well. Here are two funk-guitar styles. Heartbeat has a more legato style and Givin it up has a more staccato style. If You play Heartbeat first followed by Giving' it up they are connected by two contrasting parts of a drumsolo.

Fly Away Jam - The Abandoned Gas Plant 1988. This was definitively the lowest point of my musical life and my life in general as well. I was arrested four times during the period, for stealing a bottle of vintage Wine (and drinking it with some ‘friends’), for drug possession and not be able to prove I had borrowed the Bike I had with me from a good Friend, for trespassing and for hoboing from Utrecht to Amsterdam were I lived with Yasin, a Somalian Musician refugee. He had just fired me from his band for the umpteenth time. I had no Job, no money and several of my Guitars were stolen. It was Francis, a classical Guitarplayer gone electric who invited me and my Vox AC 30 to a Jamsession in this abandoned Gasplant in Utrecht on New Years Eve 1988. I knew half the musician who were there to Jam and there were some others. I forgave basin for firing me and asked him to come as well. Francis said we could eat and drink so that was something to look forward to. I took my one Telecaster to the venue as well which was packed with basically all white punks on dope, so to speak. Around midnight I spotted Hans, a Bassplayer I had seen and heard a few times at the sessions. However I had never played with him before. I said let’s find a drummer and You know Francis right? He said: don’t worry, You’re in, I have it all mapped out. Francis had his souped up Fender Champ and his wooden pick along with his Telecaster, there was a drumset, a Peavey Bassamp, Peavey vocal pillars and of course my Vox. Hans had indeed mapped out things. He came up with a bass player and a drummer i did not know and he was going to sing himself. So we jammed about half an hour around midnight and I thought it sounded terrible but the atmosphere was quite relaxed. The jam was supposed to be a country song in E and by sign of hand we got up to A and back (or something like that). I was bad. I didn’t remember anything afterwards when Yasin came to me and said: ‘I heard Your solo, man, You’re in my band again!’ I said ‘what solo? I didn’t play one!’ Some Guy gave me a tape of the evening which ended on the shelves of Nutking Records (formerly Bounty Records) And I had to find out what solo Yasin was referring to. It is here at 4:12 in the Video but it was really Ben and Rob starting this band Blue jeans and Black who dragged me out of the Swamp I was in at the time. Mind You, this Jam isn’t for sensible ears, I was really gone to the Dogs at this point in Time, You can hear them bark at Me.

Can't take my Eyes off You (Frankie Valli Cover) - De Kerozinekikkers. I have added this bootleg quality recording as a bonus, De Kerozinekikkers started as a jazz-ensemble, then began to be recognised as a Jazz-fusion instrumental band developing a very funky sound and finally morphed into a top 40 cabaret-act. I lost all interest when I found out all originals were dropped from the setlist for a gig in Rotterdam.

Soap Opera Blues (Otis Clay Cover) - Blue Jeans & Black. I must admit at Times I watch TV constantly while practising my Guitar. However, I never watch Soap Opera's, I hate them! So I can relate to that with Otis Clay who wrote the Tune. The Band, again is Blue Jeans & Black. To add to the domestical atmosphere (we are watching TV) I try to imitate the sound of a singing teakettle in the solo at the end of the track.

Touch (Outsiders Cover) - Blue Jeans & Black 1989. The original Wally Tax and the Outsiders single was released in 1966. Blue Jeans & Black apparently tried to upgrade the tune with some 10 years, making it sound like a 70s performance. Drummer Ben is clearly the driving force behind this (then) new arrangement. And, despite it is a one take just to remind us how we should've played it (I can't remember any occasion were we did it) It has quite some energetic atmosphere making up for the hit and miss moments of this recording.

Everybody's Free to Feel Good (Rozalla cover) - Blue Jeans & Black. Rozalla is a Zimbabwean Singer who came at age 24 to London in 1991 and recorded the song to have a world-wide Hit with it. To be honest, I would never heard of it if I wasn't in this band who wanted to cover it. Although I hardly knew what to play at first when we performed the song, I gradually began to like it and this final arrangement still stands out, I guess.

Kriziz - Little Fridge (Bontan/Buis/Roosendaal) ©1991. This is the Studio-recording of this funny song, synced to the live-footage from their concert at the Free Floor on 25-01-1991. The Live audio was spoiled by some weird echo, making it unlistenable. The introduction and the applause at the end are from the actual concert. I doubt it wether the song was presented as an encore that night since it doesn't seem logical. In the recording of the full concert there seem signs, also in the audio that it is edited. The Lyric by the way, was written by the the 4 or 5 near old daughter of the singer. You can hear her in the a capella section at the end. Enjoy!

Under My Thumb (Jagger/Richards) 1966 -Sound Advice 1991. This is probably a test recording to set the levels right on a portable-studio for a demo recording of original songs. It is quite amazing it wasn't erased, since it is from the taping days. It is even more amazing it was mixed and digitalised around the turn of the century. But here it is, a Rolling Stones Cover... I can hear I do the singing, the Slide Guitar (all the way through!) and the Bass, but I can't remember who did the Bongo's. I hope You enjoy!

Bunch of Tunch (Grünbauer / van Basten) ©1994 ℗2018. This song was first distributed through their E- Magazine 'De Kerozinekrant' as an mp3 single by De Kerozinekikkers in 2002. It also appeared on their CD 'Kwaak'. However, the song was much older, written in 1994 by Hans van Basten (who came up with the bass-riff and the chords) and myself, who wrote the words and arranged the Guitar-parts. When I had posted the acoustic version, I think it was Stig, a native English speaker, who said he never heard of the word "Tunch". A quick google learns us the word does not officially exist. However, I am pretty sure I picked the word up from some obscure American soul-artist, who's name unfortunately slipped my memory.

When Hans had left the band, we did get a new drummer and we also needed new repertoire because we lost our lead singer too. I figured out I could do this song too and I liked it so much that it was even done by the Kerozinekikkers nearly a decade later. This is the definitive studio-version for which I made a special arrangement.

One Of A Kind (Grünbauer / Khasim / Termaat) ©1995 ℗2018. One of a Kind was written for Sound Advice in 1995 as Quartet for Drums, Bass Guitar and Vocals. The song was, with a different bass-part to match the sound of the the group Sound Advice (1996) and again a different (acoustic) bass-part to match the sound of De Kerozinekikkers (1999), made suitable for their setlists. By the turn of the century the song was adapted to include parts for Violin and Flute. These parts were played by The Guitar-Twin in the all instrumental 2016 version. This new 2018 version has the original lyrics and only the short opening phrase done in twin mode. It also sports the energetic slap-bass part as per the 1995 version.

Maybe there's a Way (Henri Grünbauer) ©1991 ℗2018. I wrote this song when I had plans to start up my band Sound Advice in the early '90s. The Bass-part was especially written for my student Lenne who appeared on the original recording. In this acoustic version the Spanish Guitar-part hints to the bass-part during the instrumental passages. The song wasn't on the repertoire for more than a few Years when it was replaced by "One of a Kind'. I picked it up for the acoustic repertoire recently.

Second Coming (Alice Cooper cover) 1971. Second Coming is a song from the original Alice Cooper Band's album 'Love it to Death' It precedes 'Ballad of Dwight Free'. The Lyric seems to be about the Second Coming of Christ (or somebody who thinks he is Christ) an his observations of false Prophecy going on. The Video is edited in a way the instrumental parts are easy to follow in case You want to play the Guitar-part. Generally it is a one-take recording with the exception of a few additional bass notes along the bended notes in the Guitar-part. When I tried to play hem simultaneously, the extra tension caused by the bending resulted in de bass-notes dropping a quarter step in pitch, so I couldn't do that.

Talking for Days (Henri Grünbauer) ©1997 ℗2017. This lyric might need a little explanation for the younger generations. What is an 'Answering Machine'? In the '80s and early '90s Telephones were still cable-driven fixed devices in people's home. If You could afford it however, analog 'voicemail' was available via a tape operated (compact-cassette) system. These were called 'Answering Machines' If You were losing your Love and tried to get in Phone-contact, these machines with pre-recorded voice were just about as cruel all todays Voicemail!

Maybe there's a Way (Henri Grünbauer) ©1991 ℗2017.

Time - Henri M. Grünbauer / Hans van Basten ©1994 ℗2017. Time was put together on an sunny afternoon in the back garden. Even the neighbors seemed to like it, they didn't sent any police officier! This acoustic version comes as close as possible to the original way we did it. Originally Hans sang his Lyric, but unfortunately we didn't record it....

Let's go to the Woods (Grünbauer/van Basten) ©1998 ℗2016. This song was a Sound Advice original. When Hans came up with some chords for me to play on the Guitar, I already had the lyrics. I can't remember why or when I wrote them or what they're about. Recently my Son told me about some Party he had with friends in the Woods which was so badly organised, they had forgotten they would need some light in the middle of the Night. That made me realise the lyric must be about that sort of a Party. Since We of course didn't have any cellphones back then, We would have to Party in complete darkness!

A Million Miles Away (Rory Gallagher cover) 1974. Two reasons to do this tune: I'm a Million Miles Away to most of You and I found out why I dig this tune so much. This can be found in the line "I lost my Captain and my Crew" The song is about the feelings of a Sailor who shipwrecked. This is what happened to My (German) great-great-grandfather. After his later death at sea his Diary was returned to his (dutch) Wife and sole Son, with a detailed discription what happened. Through Rory's song with its challenging Guitar playing, I got the picture of a shipwrecked Sailor complete. Sailor 'John' Grünbauer looked like this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=495658233795949&set=a.190114037683705.52068.100000553315870&type=3&theater

Me & Bobby mc Ghee (Kris Kristofferson 1970) Cover. This is just a tune I like to do. My version of course comes nowhere near Janis Joplin's and it is about twice as fast as the original by Kris Kristofferson. I don't sing very often, mostly just to show how I want to do a particular song. Anyway, I hope You find this listenable...

Romance (Niccolò Paganini 1782-1840) This piece is part of the Grande Sonata per Chitarre. In the original score there is also a accompaniment for Violin present, this is however so minimalistic that it is often left out in concert. Paganini is of course the most famous (and technically accomplished) Violinist of all time and it is only in recent times that his works for Guitar get some recognition. This recording is from 2013. I enhanced the audio a little bit. Enjoy!

Mystery Girl - Henri Grünbauer (Grünbauer/Roest) ©1998 ℗2016. Mystery Girl is an attempt to write a popsong for the group Sound Advice when they were back to trio format again. So there are lyrics to it, but this is an instrumental studio version which clears out the melody. In the video appears no girl, so it will remain a mystery who she really is. bassist Marco Roest wrote the heavy bridge to connect the Guitarparts and is therefore credited.

Lift off (Henri M. Grünbauer / C. Kamminga) ©2002 ℗2016. Lift off was written for The Kerozine Kikkers when they started out as a Jazzband. Originally there was just the Chords (Am Dm E7 Am (2x) D7 G7 C7 F7 B7 B7 E A) and the noodling about on the Melody. It wasn't until Caroline came up with thundering opening chords (E F# Bm etc.) before Lift off became the opener for the Set.

Dutch Delta Blues - Henri Grünbauer ©℗2016. When I discovered the Blues, I was already about 15 Years old and spent hours listening to Mississippi John Hurt, Libba Cotton and Doc Watson. This type of Delta picking I learned to play via tune like "Deep River Blues' "Powder Rag' and 'Freight Train'. In The Netherlands we too have a Delta at the Zeeland District, very different from the Mississippi Delta, but both Delta's inspired me to write this little tune. I play it on the Eko six-string. In preparation I had to shift the Guitar's neck-angle to get a playable action. During the recording I was trying to hypnotize the Cat which was making noises to spoil the recording. That explains the mad look in my eyes from time to time.

La Connection Française - Henri Grünbauer ©℗2016. Of course I have been working on it for some two weeks, first in my head on how to connect the riffs and what sort of beat I should use. The Drums and Bass both took a session of a few hours, then I took two sessions to practice and complete the Guitar part and record it, meaning there is a studio version which I will put on soundcloud after some final mixing. But at that point I had no Video so I took the challenge to record a Guitar in one take. I is just what it is, Just Guitar, bass and drums, no rhythm Guitar, other dubbing or fancy video edits.

Kong! (Henri M. Grünbauer) ©2003 ℗2016. Kong! was composed when I played this Atari-game all the time. The first theme (which is only played once) is heard after the game starts up. It is the game where You have to climb stairs to rescue a princess. A monkey, who holds her, throws all sorts of things on your path. The music was composed for 'De Kerozinekikkers' who were working on a Jazz-repertoire at the time. Although the composition was finished and rehearsed, it was never performed live and there was never a recording other than a Notator-songfile on my Ataricomputer. It consisted of a melody, a bassline, drums and the chords, which is a rare keyboard part. The remaining notes stayed in my head for thirteen years and are finally properly recorded for the first time.

The Swinging Stranger (Henri M. Grünbauer) ©1999 ℗2016. The Swinging Stranger tells the story of a modern Troubadour who plays with local Musicians, since he came from very far it turns into a meeting of two different cultures. The local Musicians, the Drummer (who isn't visible in de Video), he Bassplayer and the Rhythm Guitarist provide a tight jazzy backing for the Stranger, who starts out with an exotic Melody. After this, the Local Guitarist plays a two voiced melody, representing a couple within the community. At one point in the melody three notes are ringing at the same time. This means a Child is born. The Stranger returns with his Melody, followed by an unisono Riff by the Stranger and the Locals. This provides a Frame for the Bass- and Drums-solo's. The Stranger dances to this, then returns to the Melody and a single string free form improvised solo follows. The Melody closes the Meeting.

On My Way - Henri M. Grünbauer ©1979 ℗2016. On My Way is a '70s Blues-Rock style Party-tune. The first demo stems from early jam-sessions that led to the formation of Saint Vitus. In 1982 it was released on their first cassette-album with an updated beat to match with Contemporary disco music. In 1984 it was rearranged to fit the set-list of Saint Vitus II and carried on to the Backfire setlist. Sound Advice picked-up the tune around 1997 with a straight 16th beat as opposed to the original 12/8 beat. This new version re-introduces the original shuffle. Guitar-wise there's some slide melody and in the intermezzo I took care to clean up the rhythm guitar to do some fingerpicking accompaniment to an artificial flageolet style played melody that will catch the attention of the women, I hope.

Purple Rain (Prince cover) Blue Jeans & Black 1989. On the third day of mourning over Prince' death the last of the three uploads of covers of his songs by Blue Jeans & Black. Purple Rain used to be the opening number in the first setlist and this particular recording was made during their very first gig. Unfortunately there's quite an amount of distortion on the vocals, but hopefully this doesn't spoil the listening to the music to much so it closes the three days of mourning in a respectful way...

Kiss (Prince cover) - Blue Jeans & Black 1992. Blue Jeans & Black played gigs primarily as a coverband from the end of 1989 to about 1992 with the very last gig after an hiatus in 1994. In total 150 to 200 gigs might have been played. Even in matters of Life or Death, the show had to go on. This ment sometimes we played with a replacement for one of the band members, most notably two gigs with a replacement drummer and about three with a replacement guitarist (named Berto). This was a matter of Life luckily because I had my Son born. Berto played the gigs and did a fine job. Meanwhile in the jamming circuit, another Guitarplayer named Gerrit had made-up this Bluesbeat version of Prince's "Kiss" and Berto had taken this version to Blue Jeans & Black and it was still on the setlist when I returned to play the following gig. So I knew Prince's tune allright and was instructed to play it in this blues kind of version. As You will understand I had no Guitar-arrangement ready for this and made it up on the spot. That is why You might notice I don't really have the plot before the second verse. Since what happens in the first verse is sort of listenable, I hope You have fun listening to one of the sloppiest examples of Guitarplaying available on the planet. And I hope his Royal Badness will forgive me.

1999 (Prince Cover) Blue Jeans & Black 1992. When playing in Top 40 bands in the 80s and 90s, You couldn't get away without playing a Prince-song. Blue Jeans & Black had no less than three of them, of which this here 1999 was one. It was always a challenge to find the right parts to play on his tunes because the arrangements on the records are usually very tricky and cleverly mixed. Hope You enjoy this live-version. If You do more will follow in memory of one of the greatest!

Hard Times - Henri M. Grünbauer / Dirk van Burken ©1992 ℗2016. Hard Times comes from the Legacy of Dirk van Burken's Hard-Rock trio Backfire. When Dirk died in 1986 I was his last Guitarplayer. This tune was based around a few notes I noticed he had written on a piece of paper. Just an idea for a song was worked out that afternoon and not before I learned he had gone, I finished the song which ended up on setlists of Sound Advice and the Kerozinekikkers between 1996 and 2006.

Why (Grünbauer / de Bye / van Burken) ©1980 2016℗. Why was a ballad and a highlight of the (Dutch) Saint Vitus shows in the early 80s. As a ballad is style-independed it was taken over from the Funk-Rock formation by Hard-Rock formation Backfire in the mid 80s. The chorus of the song was revamped a bit but it retained the original chords for the solo section. Therefore, bass players from both bands deserve credits.
