How long have you been playing?
I've always been into music, and having it run in the family certainly helps. I received my first keyboard when I was quite young. Mum took me to a friend's house and I was allowed to play on their keyboard. It was from that point on I decided I must have one of my own.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
I remember going to several of Mum's orchestral concerts, as she plays the harp. I guess I remember just how big an orchestra actually is, with all the instruments working together to produce a masterpiece. I don't really remember what year it was, but I think it must have been held at Mum's workplace. I think I went with family.
What gear do you use?
I use a Technics SX-KN930 keyboard that I purchased back in September of 1999. It's still going strong after all this time. Over the years, I have also owned a Tascam 424 MKIII cassette-based four-track recorder. That was fun to work out various songs on. A few years ago, I bought a Tascam US-100 USB audio interface. I love this equipment, mainly cos the sound quality is vastly superior to that of my old four-track.
What are you looking for from Fandalism?
I just like discovering other musicians and what they have to offer. It's also another place where I can share my music. I'm always looking for sites where I can upload things and share with the world.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
I have always liked The Beatles, as Mum owns two of their albums and several of their singles on vinyl. She would play them on a regular basis, so I get my love of The Beatles from her. It's not surprising that a lot of my songs on this site are Beatles covers. I have always thought the Lennon-McCartney songwriting duo to be one of the best in the world. I also liked how they were so far ahead of their time with what they created in the studio.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
No I've never been in a band. With the various collabs I've done however, it sort of feels like I have been in a band with those people. They would check out my music, and then ask me if I would like to work on a song with them.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
It would be so great to jam with John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Just being in the same room as them as they come up with musical ideas would have been fantastic!
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
I used to busk at my local markets with my keyboard. I would play covers and even Christmas carols with my sister, a flautist. It was nice to play the songs that I had been working on. I have also got up on stage and rapped along to Eminem's "Without Me". That was fun, and I dressed up as him as well. That particular experience was in 2003 at a work function. It was a pretty full room at the time, maybe 50 or so people. Everyone liked it.
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
If I could only bring one album, it would probably be "Help!" by The Beatles. It's either that or "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band". Those two albums were the ones that Mum owns on vinyl, and I first heard them when I was a child. I would go with "Help!" though cos those songs are somewhat easier for me to reproduce, in my opinion. I have covered several songs from that album, and I would love to do more.

What If (co-written with Chasing The Last Train)
This is an original song that I co-wrote with a ... read moremember of a music collaboration site called SongwriterLink. "Chasing The Last Train" initially contacted me on there in mid-2021 about working on a song together. We started chatting and she sent me some lyrics that she thought I would like. As soon as I read through them, I just knew we were on to a winner! We exchanged email addresses and then got to work on the song. "Chasing" is a fantastic lyricist as it turns out, with only a few tweaks required to what she sent me. We decided that a piano ballad was definitely the way to go with this sombre number. I played the piano part and sang the lead vocal, as well as taking care of the audio production side of things. The backing vocals were provided by a lady from Copenhagen called "Dizzy Lizzy." She did a wonderful job too! "Chasing" also made the lyric video, and this just so happens to be her first ever full song! I look forward to co-writing many more songs with her in future.

Originally recorded in 1998 using Cubase Lite at Kenmore State High School. Amended in 2013 using Cubase VST. This is the song that pretty much started it all for me as an artist. It was written for a high school musical that was in the preliminary stages at the time. The song's title refers to the twelve years of schooling. Unfortunately, this version of the song didn't end up making it into that musical (which would become Teenstars), although another track of the same name did.

Originally recorded in November 2000 using Cubase VST. Amended in July 2013 using the same software. The reason I did this was in order for it to be suitable for release. All of my instrumental works have utilised my trusty Technics SX-KN930 keyboard, which I purchased in September 1999. These days I like to refer to it as my "Synthetic Orchestra".

Originally recorded in 1999 using Cubase VST at Kenmore State High School. Amended in October 2013 using FL Studio. The timing was all over the place in the original version of this one as well. I renamed this song from the old title of SeaChange, which was an Australian TV series. This new version of the song removes the seashore sound effect, hence the change of title.

Originally recorded in August 2000 using Cubase VST. Amended in October 2013 using FL Studio. This is a remixed and stripped-back version when compared to the original track. I felt the one done in 2000 had too much instrumentation in it, and the timing was all over the place.

Written in 1999 in the music block at my high school. I remember I'd spend some lunch times in there working on my music. This was from a time in my life when I was composing "five-minute epics", as I would tend to call them. A few of my uploads from back then are at least five minutes in length. I am able to create shorter songs, but i just had so many ideas that I wanted to include.

Written in May 2004. At the time I really couldn't think of a name for it, so in the end I chose "My Currently Untitled Work". To this day, I still can't think of a proper name for it! I'm sure I'm not the only one who has called a song of theirs "Untitled."

I wrote this song while I was undertaking work experience at the SAE Technology College in 1998. This recording has been digitised from an audio cassette, so the sound quality is noticeably different from that of more modern songs. I used Cubase Lite and a sound module known as Proteus. This is actually two separate ideas combined into one. It sort of sounds like a "demo" track, hence the song title.

Recorded in July 2000 using Cubase VST. This is one of my all-time favourite instrumental recordings that I have done. I just love how the song opens, and it gradually builds throughout.

I recorded this original in July 2004 using Cubase VST and Sony's ACID software. I wrote the song about one of my workmates at the time. It was going to describe what it would be like if this person were a superhero, but then I decided to see how much I knew about her.

This was written and recorded in November 2004 using FL Studio. In my opinion, it's the best completely original work that I have created. The song is basically about the act of writing songs.

Originally recorded in November 2000 using Cubase VST. This song was extensively amended in July 2013 using the same software. The old recording sounded suspiciously like the Dire Straits song "Sultans Of Swing", so I went about changing the melody and a few other things. This new version is also shorter than the old one, which was a "five-minute epic" that I mentioned previously.

This song is about the fear of becoming an artist who has only one really popular song to his name. I am of course talking about the one hit wonder.
ONE HIT WONDER - by Protis
VERSE 1
I had only written one song
And it was one of my best
Maybe I should have written more
But it can be such a pest
I have often been called a slacker
Although that is far from the truth
You see it's so hard to come up with lyrics
That sound good and warrant the proof
CHORUS
I don't wanna be a one hit wonder
Who only makes the very odd gem
The Monkees, The Knack and Los Del Rio
I must have more hits than them
Oh sure I have written a whole heap of stuff
But those were just wordless drivel
I feel the need to challenge myself
And perhaps to stop being so trivial
VERSE 2
It can be a fragile existence
What with only having one hit song
Such criticism from the outside world
Why don't you just go smoke some bongs?
So that is my main motivation
In penning this epic for you
To show that I am so much more
Than one-dimensional doggie do.
CHORUS
(spoken)
Right, so I guess by the end of this I'll be a two hit wonder then, huh?
Or maybe I should just sing the chorus again, maybe that'll help...
Not everything can be the quality of SuperJaye, you know!
STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Verse 3
Now you must stop being so silly
And aiming the blame at yourself
You know how hard it is to write a song
Just well enough so it sells.
Geez man, just lighten up a bit eh
Because everyone's lovin' your shit
One day you will be on top of the world
So you had better put a sock in it!
CHORUS 2
There's no way you'll be a one hit wonder
As you will have so many gems
The Monkees, The Knack and Los Del Rio
You will have more hits than them
Ok so you have written a whole heap of stuff
But those rocked man, they really did
You've already challenged yourself so much
And you'll never go down on the skids
(spoken)
Wow, I feel a lot better. Thanks... me!

DON'T GIVE ME MASHED POTATOES by Protis - a parody of I WANNA BE SEDATED by the Ramones
I start to think aloud as Mum opens the door
Don't gimme mashed potatoes
What can I do, I can't eat no more
I don't like mashed potatoes
Just get 'em off my plate now, and put 'em down the drain
Do it super quick now, they're driving me insane
Anxiety has sunk in, I look on in disdain
As Mum makes me eat more
Now all I wanna do is throw up on the floor
And have no mashed potatoes
What can I do, I can't eat no more
These fucking mashed potatoes
Won't somebody help me, and make 'em go away
Carson Kressley eats 'em, and after all he's gay
I wanna be like Dale, I wanna be like Jaye
And have no more of these
Don't gimme mashed pota-Don't gimme mashed pota-
Don't gimme mashed pota-Don't gimme mashed pota-
Don't gimme mashed pota-Don't gimme mashed pota-
Don't gimme mashed pota-Don't gimme mashed potatoes
Oh no what's that I see there, it is another encore
More bloody mashed potatoes
What can I do, I can't eat no more
Can't stand the mashed potatoes
Oh will it ever end now, it's too much for my brain
I wanna go outside now, and get hit by a train
I think it would be easier to be Saddam Hussein
When will you get the hint?
I start to think aloud as Mum opens the door
Don't give me mashed potatoes
What can I do, I can't eat no more
I don't like mashed potatoes
Just get 'em off my plate now, and put 'em down the drain
Do it super quick now, they're driving me insane
Won't somebody help me, and make 'em go away
Carson Kressley eats 'em, and after all he's gay
Will it ever end now, it's too much for my brain
Anxiety has sunk in, I look on in disdain
As Mum makes me eat more
Bad bad bad bad bad, bad bad bad bad
Don't gimme mashed potatoes
Bad bad bad bad bad, bad bad bad bad
Please no more mashed potatoes
Bad bad bad bad bad, bad bad bad bad
Can't stand the mashed potatoes
Bad bad bad bad bad, bad bad bad bad
Not bloody mashed potatoes
