The club has been running for 53 years, making it the oldest folk club in Wales.
On any given Friday night we have ballads and shanties, blues, country, contemporary folk and poetry. Our regular musicians play a variety of instruments, with guitars being the most common (obviously).
What gear do you use?
Too many instruments to list but, for recording (the tracks on this page) we use a Zoom H6 with an additional XLR/TRS capsule. That's connected to the first six channels of our sound desk (a 24 channel Behringer with individual outputs), giving us 2 vocal mics, two instrument mics and two instrument leads that are recorded as 6 separate tracks (24bit/96KHz) that get remixed and dubbed over our videos.
The video is filmed with a Sony HX400V bridge camera, mounted on a spare mic stand on a window sill. All very cheap (relatively) and easy.
What are you looking for from Fandalism?
We're trying to advertise our club in the hope some itinerant musicians, finding themselves in North Wales, will consider dropping by and joining in.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Some of our members have been in bands. some still duet occasionally. Friday nights always end with all our singers up on stage, sharing a shanty. Does that count?
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
The album most often mentioned at Rhyl Folk Club is Penguin Eggs by Nic Jones. Several of our regular singers cover Nic jones songs and it's a rare week we don't hear one off that album.
