I am looking for song-writers/composers in the Musical Theatre mode (think Andrew Llotd Weber style etc), Jazz and of course Leider. If this is you, please contact me and lets hook up and help each other. Contact me voicesbyrob@gmail.com
What was the first concert you ever went to?
So many, can't remember. My mother made sure her son was well steeped in musical performances, especially classical.
What are you looking for from Fandalism?
To grow my fan base and get my voice "out there", to be heard.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Being of English background, my formative years were spent listening to brass bands. It was through being involved in youth brass bands I was introduced to classical compositions and other modes of music. My mother was always playing classical orchestral music at home on the stereo as I grew up.
While I still enjoy the odd brass band concert on YouTube, I have expanded my horizons to include choral music, musical theatre and especially jazz music which is fast becoming my focus in my later years.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Ella Fitzgerald and her band. She is in my opinion, one of the best jazz/scat singers of all time. Just imagine what you could learn from someone like her.
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
In April 2008, I performed and recorded a recital for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (the CBC) at the Winspear Centre for Music in Edmonton, Canada. There were approximately 1,000+ people in attendance, certainly more than I was expecting. This was indeed my most memorable performance.
Of course, as a youngster I always sang for my parents, so the smallest was usually 2, LOL.
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Only one??? I would have to take at least two.
1) Super Tramp - Breakfast in America.
I love the fusion between jazz, pop and rock on this album. The vocal intricacies are also great, the harmonies close and the grove exhilarating. Being a "brass" person, the brass used on the album doesn't hurt the attraction either.
2) Requiem - Gabriel Faure
I sang this as a member of Pro Coro Canada (a professional chamber choir based in Edmonton, Canada) and it brought tears to my eyes not only in the performance, but, in rehearsals. There are many Requiem's composed by many amazing composer's, however, they never moved me like this one. My two favourite movements are the 'Sanctus' and 'In Paradisum'. The 'Sanctus' reminds me of a Holy God who is to be loved and revered. The 'In Paradisum' reminds me of where my faith tells me I am going and reminds me of the connection between this life and the next. And, if the angels in heaven sing like this, I can't wait to hear it!!
