Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
When I was around 11 or 12 years young I got a cassette tape from my grandfather. He taped the vinyl "Coleman Hawkins encounters Ben Webster" on one side and "Very Saxy" (with Coleman Hawkins, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Buddy Tate and Arnett Cobb) on the other side. When I heard Coleman Hawkins play I wanted to learn to play the saxophone too.
My all time favorite sax players - besides Coleman Hawkins - are:
Hank Mobley, Cannonball Adderley, Eddie Harris, Charles Rouse, John Coltrane, Michael Brecker and Joshua Redman.
Why I like them? I can't find the right words to do their genius justice ...
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
