I started piano lessons when I was 4 because I asked for them.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I play in the space music band SPACECRAFT with my husband, John Rose, and our dear friend, Tony Gerber. Sometimes we are joined by Giles Reaves and occasionally by other great musicians. I have played with Carla Gover, formerly of Zoey Speaks, for many years. Currently, we are calling our band Carla Gover and the fabulous D's, and Daphne Scruggs Fields usually plays bass with us. I recently started a new project, The Wonderlusters, with fabulous songwriter, Jason Mize. I am really enjoying the process of learning his songs, and soon we will be booking gigs. I sing with the Kentucky Bach Choir, which is a really satisfying and challenging musical experience. Finally, I also play with Rakadu Gypsy, the belly dancers, on a fairly regular basis, mostly playing flute and hand drums. It's interesting translating their movements and intentions into musical ideas. Spacecraft has not played live as much lately, but we have often played at the Hummel Planetarium in Richmond. Carla Gover is well-known in Kentucky and elsewhere, and plays all over the place. I tag along as needed, ad often play shows with her at Natasha's. The Wonderlusters will be booking soon. Stay tuned! The Kentucky Bach choir is preparing a concert for April 13 and 14, in Lexington and Louisville. Rakadu performs regularly, and will be at Natasha's on April 12.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Paul McCartney. He's just so sunny, he seems to be coming from a place of universal love all the time.
