How long have you been playing?
Piano lessons, whenever we could get them, from 8 - 16. All classical, memorized as taught. Loved it but left it for art and life until 2012. Began learning bass, returned to piano and am now progressing, reading music and practicing passionately. Not a professional musician but I can't live without it.
What are you looking for from Fandalism?
Looking for inspiration ,information and ideas.
What gear do you use?
Everything I have is secondhand - an upright piano, a Takamine acoustic guitar, and a beautiful red handmade bass, that I'm playing in the photo. The bass was a gift, so that makes it the favorite,
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
My father played classical music every day in the house. My uncle was a jazz fiend. Rock n roll came along and was my ticket to the music that made it - R&B, stride piano, funk, you name it. Still learning as much as I can. Always
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
No, not my main interest. Have been in many a Space Jam at Electric Sparkyland, and a brief stint as bass player for Big D Hensley's band Cheese Dog. Also handy as roadie n driver for my friends' bands.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Truth - my late husband Ted King. I was completely involved in art during our wonderful 24 years growing up together. He was an amazing guitar player n composer. Sadly he left us in 2002 and we never played together, though learning music helped me mourn him then. . Bet he'd be proud of me!
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
Very unlikely prospect - but this is a half-hour reading I did for KGPC 96.5, three stories and two songs that I review. http://www.kgpc969.org/community-news/2016/5/19/art-critic-and-ceramics-professor-susannah-israel
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
This is impossible! because the music keeps on coming. My choice could change tomorrow...
Currently working on this young cello player, inspired by Ifetayo Ali Landing.
