Started playing drums when I was 12 years old. My best friend across the street had a drum set and I would play on it. When my older brother's buddy needed the money I was able to buy his 7 piece fiberglass Tama Swing-star with 7 or 8 cymbals for cheap. Way too many pieces for my skill level. But I was able to play with other musicians straight away. I dabbled in guitar here and there, and eventually got serious about it when a friend gave me a Taylor. Hooked and writing songs ever since.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
My dad took me to see Randy Newman when I was maybe 9 years old. I still remember him standing on a chair singing "Short People".
That guy is still a huge hero and an influence. He can make a very complex song sound so simple (not an easy task) and his words are ridiculously insightful. Listen to Political Science, Redneck, our Louisiana 1927.
What gear do you use?
Fishman Rare Earth Single Coil,
Fishman Aura Spectrum,
BBE Boosta Grande,
Tama Signature 18 inch Bass Drum,
Zildjian K 10" Splash,
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
When I was young all I listened to was the Beatles, Country music (Willie, Waylon, George Jones, Buck Owens) and Jazz.
When I was a little older I was all about 60s and 70s rock and roll and Jam Bands.
Recently I went back to that country, folk and americana. There's something to say about a simple tune.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
The Little Fuller Band and solo
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Dylan probably. I'd be more interested in talking than playing with him though. Is this where I am supposed to say Jesus?
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
100's to nobody...
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
The Band ~ The Last Waltz, Stevie Wonder ~ Songs in the Key of Life, or Grateful Dead ~ Without a Net. I would want to bring something with lots of different feels to it... so I could be inspired. Or could I trade the album for a guitar and 12 dozen packs of strings?
