I have been playing music since I was sixteen, I started on piano then a year later took up the guitar because of it's portability and not wanting to play indoors all the time.
That's also one of the reasons I like to busk. Another is the ready made audience.... well with enough persistence a group of strangers can become an audience and maybe even Friends :)
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
My friends who played guitar. we would get together and try to learn as much grunge as we could and then chill out with the beatles. But nowadays I'm influenced by more and more songwriters from the 70's when It was all new too be discovered. Like Davey Graham,Donovan,Neil young, Micheal hedges, Leo Kottke and Locals who play because they have too....It's too late to get a real job.
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
Im in a duo called Feeling Acoustic with a fantastic gospel singer and bass player Rosalind. We play a range of covers from the 50's to present day,and some originals.
I'm also in a duo with Ryn on tenor sax called Spiltmilk and we play original music in as many acoustic friendly styles we can, with a large helping of loop pedal layering to keep it fresh and lively and beef up the sound.
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
It has to be my current band mates. I've played music with many different people and it just works!!!
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
It would be playing my first live performance on Bass guitar. Which was this year at Exeter cathedral for over a thousand people. playing with St Thomas Gospel Choir. What a rush..Also bass is great fun to play.
The smallest was at a cafe where I had the most Intimate gig with about 15 people but It was a very magical evening. and I had to encourage everyone to tell jokes when I broke a string, And they didn't hold back.
